The breeder versus rescue fight in the bird community has become exhausting, because somewhere along the way we stopped talking about the thing that actually matters: the birds.
A baby bird can be an incredible experience. So can earning the trust of an older bird that has been misunderstood, neglected, or simply lost the home it once knew. Sometimes the bird was never “bad” or “aggressive.” Sometimes it just needed a different environment, better communication, and someone willing to listen.
But a label means nothing to me. I have seen terrible breeders and terrible rescues. I have also seen amazing people on both sides completely change birds’ lives.
Show me how the birds live.
Are they clean? Healthy? Enriched? Properly fed? Given veterinary care, exercise, fresh air, sunlight, choices, and respect?
That is what matters.
We need less shaming, less fighting over labels, and a lot more education, transparency, accountability, and compassion.
The goal is not to prove who is morally superior. The goal is to help more birds truly thrive.
