🎂 RUFUS IS 6! 🥳🐾

Somehow my little golden puppy is officially SIX years old today. 😭💙

Rufus wears a lot of hats around here — my service dog, adventure buddy, doggy assistant, demo dog, Ryker mascot, Jax’s bestie, and occasional employee who contributes absolutely nothing toward the bills. 😂

Most of our clients know Rufus is my service dog, but usually only get to see Ryker Rufus. What you don’t see as often is Working Rufus — navigating Disneyland, Universal Studios, crazy crowds, vacations, and everyday life right by my side.

Then he clocks out and goes right back to being a goofy Golden who lives for his friends, the beach, pup cups, and Lambies. 😂

Six years of adventures, memories, and having my best boy by my side. I wouldn’t have it any other way. 💙

Happy 6th Birthday, Ru! 🎂🐾

Now please stop getting older. 🥹😂

Training pack walk with Lacy, Justice & Marley! 🐾☀️

Today’s walk wasn’t just about practicing leash manners — we worked on navigating the real world together in a pack walk!

The crew practiced their commands, walking nicely on leash, and staying neutral around all the random things we encountered along the way… including a very interesting golf cart. 😂

We even stopped for a little group photo practice before heading back. 📸

These everyday outings are such an important part of training. The more opportunities dogs have to experience new sights, sounds, surfaces, people, and objects while practicing calm behavior, the more confident and well-rounded they become. 💙

Confidence building with Zeus 💙🐾

Zeus can be a nervous pup, so during his Day Training outings, we make a point to slow things down and give him opportunities to simply observe the world around him.

On today’s outing, that meant checking out the handsome dog in the reflection 😂, investigating a golf cart, and spending some time near the busy Herndon & Blackstone intersection with cars, people, noises, and lots of activity happening around him.

For nervous dogs, confidence building doesn’t always mean asking them to interact with something they’re unsure about. Sometimes it’s simply giving them the opportunity to look, process, and realize that they’re safe.

The more positive experiences Zeus has with new sights, sounds, objects, and environments, the more confident he can become navigating the world. 💙

And yes… he was VERY interested in that dog in the window. 😂

On Sunday, we said goodbye to a very special member of the Ryker family.

At 11 years old, Angus had been part of Ryker from the very beginning. If you’ve been with us for a while, there’s a good chance you met him — whether your dog trained alongside him, socialized with him, boarded at Brittany’s house, or you simply saw his sweet face over the years.

Angus helped countless dogs learn how to socialize and be around other dogs. He was often every dog’s first friend, but his biggest contribution to Ryker was simply being Angus.

He was sweet, goofy, patient, and always had a way of making people smile. He was one of those dogs who was just happy to be included, and he became part of so many dogs’ experiences with us over the years.
When he wasn’t helping with training, he loved running around the yard with his friends, chomping on his favorite chews, playing with the hose, and above all, being with his favorite people.

Most importantly, Angus was Brittany’s boy and a deeply loved member of her family. We know there are so many Ryker families who loved him too, and we wanted to give everyone a chance to remember him with us.

Thank you, Angus, for all the dogs you helped, all the laughs you gave us, and for being such a special part of Ryker’s story. You will be incredibly missed. ❤️🐾

Confidence building doesn’t always mean doing something big. Sometimes it means learning how to handle the world around you. 🐾

Penny is currently in our Behavioral Board & Train, where we’ve been working on her nervousness, confidence, and socialization.

During our walk, we found some outdoor exercise equipment and used it as an opportunity to challenge Penny to get on and off something new and unfamiliar. We also took random breaks along the trail where her only job was to sit, observe her surroundings, and work through anything that made her uncomfortable.

For nervous dogs like Penny, our goal isn’t to avoid the things that make them unsure. We want to give them guidance through those situations and teach them, “I can handle this.”

Every new surface, sound, environment, and quiet moment of observation is another opportunity to build confidence. 💪🐶

Board & Train field trip! 🐾☀️

Cruze, Kashi, and Penny headed out to Dry Creek Trail with Rufus for some real-world training and socialization.

Outings like this aren’t just about getting the dogs out of the house — they’re an opportunity to practice walking together, holding commands, settling in a new environment, and staying calm and neutral around everything happening around them.

It was also a special outing for Kashi because today was his last day of Board & Train! 🥹 He’s spent his program working on being calmer and more confident in public, so it was the perfect way to wrap up his stay.

So proud of how this whole crew handled themselves. ❤️🐾
