Our first Horsemanship for Homeschoolers went so well today. Thank you, parents! I was so impressed with how well your kids exercised self-control and obedience. We had 9 kids from 4 to 12 years of age. All of them were so patient and sat good thru the 2 hour class. They had to practice being good listeners and participating in interactive discussion.
Parents you're doing a great job with your kids!
Today the kids learned how to approach a pony and feed them treats. We also learned about body language and behavior to look out for. I introduced them to what a POA pony was. We learned about POA coat colors and patterns. I showed them what makes a pony a pony, height! We learned how to measure a pony in hands using a measuring stick. We also used our POA pony mare, Grace, as a model to practice parts of the horse. The kids picked out a part and used a large sticky note to attach their part to Grace. Grace was so good about this, allowing the kids to approach with a treat and attach a sticky note to her body. She was such a trooper...which is why we love this breed so much. POA ponies were bred specifically to be good mounts for children. We tied all of this together at the end by learning about how faith and trust develop a deep bond between a child and a pony. It was such a beautfiul day for our Horsemanship for Homeschoolers class.
Thank you all for coming!
