❤️🐾 It’s Vet Tech Week, and we want to show some love to Linda, our LVT here at Bellwether Harbor!
Working in animal rescue means seeing animals on some of the hardest days of their lives. Some come to us sick, injured, frightened, or carrying the effects of a past where they weren't treated with the kindness they deserved. They come to us needing someone to help them heal, someone to be patient when they're scared, and someone willing to show them that not every human is going to hurt them. Linda is one of the people who helps make that possible. There is something incredibly special about being able to help an animal who is sick feel better, to give comfort to one who is frightened, and to help an animal who has been let down by people begin to feel safe again.
But veterinary care in a shelter isn't all heartwarming recovery stories and animals finally feeling better. There are medications to give, vaccines to administer, medical records to keep updated, appointments to coordinate, supplies to keep stocked, and health concerns to keep an eye on. There are messes that nobody is particularly excited to clean up, unpleasant jobs that still need doing, and days when the to-do list seems to multiply faster than the cats in kitten season.
All of those things, glamorous or not, are part of caring for animals. The little things matter just as much as the big ones. Catching a health concern early, keeping up with preventative care, making sure medications are given correctly, and paying attention to changes in behavior can make a real difference in an animal's well-being. It takes knowledge, patience, attention to detail, and a whole lot of dedication to keep everything moving, especially when you're caring for so many animals at once.
And that's what we want to recognize this week. Not just the medical care Linda provides when an animal is sick, but all the work that happens behind the scenes to keep our animals healthy, comfortable, and ready for their next chapter. The difficult days, the routine days, the messy days, and the days when the only thank-you she might get is a tail wag, a purr, or an animal who finally feels well enough to be themselves again.
Happy Vet Tech Week, Linda! Thank you for being there for the animals who are sick, the ones who are scared, and the ones who need a little extra help learning to trust again. Thank you for doing the jobs nobody lines up for, handling the less-than-glamorous parts of animal care, and showing up for all the little things that make such a big difference. The work you do matters, even when it's messy, exhausting, or goes unnoticed, and we're so grateful to have you as part of the Bellwether Harbor team. ❤️🐾
