Our banquet dinner and silent auction was truly an incredible evening.

As we reflect on the night, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support shown by our community. To everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, sponsored, shared our mission, and continues to stand behind us — thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Animal rescue is not something we can do alone. Every animal that walks through our doors is cared for because of people like you. Your support allows us to provide medical care, safe shelter, full bellies, warm beds, rehabilitation, and ultimately loving forever homes for animals who need a second chance.

To our donors, sponsors, and supporters, thank you for believing in our mission and investing in the future of homeless animals in our community. Your generosity directly impacts the lives of countless animals and helps us continue the work we are so passionate about.

And to our community — thank you for showing up for us year after year. Seeing so many familiar faces and new supporters gathered together for one shared purpose was incredibly moving. The love and compassion in that room reminded us exactly why we do what we do.

Because of all of you, Bellwether Harbor Animal Shelter can continue to be a safe place for animals in need. We are endlessly grateful.

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving our country. Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made for the freedoms we enjoy every day and to keep the memories of those heroes alive.

At Bellwether Harbor Animal Shelter, we are especially grateful for the compassion, courage, and selflessness shown by so many — both human and canine — who served alongside one another with unwavering loyalty.

As the shelter stays busy with wagging tails, purring cats, and the daily work of caring for animals in need, we are reminded how important kindness, community, and love truly are. We hope today brings time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and to appreciate the people, pets, and moments that matter most.

There is truly nothing better than getting to share happy endings like these ❤️

Please help us celebrate these officially adopted shelter friends:

🐾 Jessie (now Gracie)
🐾 Myrtle
🐾 Cow Cat (now Felix)
🐾 Molly
🐾 Checkers (now Boog)
🐾 Pebble

Every adoption means the world to us, but we would be lying if we said Jessie’s didn’t tug at our hearts a little extra. Seeing her finally leave the shelter and step into a life filled with comfort, love, and stability was such an emotional and exciting moment for our staff. She has been so loved while in our care, and watching her become Gracie and start this brand new chapter felt incredibly special. We are just so genuinely happy for her.

But every one of these animals deserves to be celebrated today. Myrtle, Felix, Molly, Boog, and Pebble all found people who saw how special they are and chose to make them part of their families forever. That is what this work is all about.

There are always bittersweet feelings when animals leave the shelter. We miss their faces, their routines, and all of their funny little personalities around here, but knowing they are sleeping in homes of their own, getting spoiled, loved endlessly, and living the lives they deserve makes every goodbye worth it.

Thank you to everyone who supports Bellwether Harbor Animal Shelter and helps make moments like these possible. Every adoption opens another space for an animal in need, and every share, donation, volunteer hour, and kind word helps change lives more than you know.

Oscar is still waiting for his people. 🖤🤍

At a year and a half old, this handsome tuxedo boy has perfected the art of being equal parts sweet and sassy. He’s not the kind of cat who’s going to throw himself into your arms the second you meet him — Oscar likes to take his time deciding who is worthy of his attention. But honestly? That just makes it even more special when you earn it.

Once he warms up, Oscar turns into a lovable little shadow who enjoys chin scratches from his favorite people, lounging in sunny spots like it’s his full-time job, and showing off his playful side with toys. One minute he’s stretched out dramatically in the sun acting like he pays the bills around here, and the next he’s batting toys around and asking for attention on his own terms.

Oscar has a lot of personality packed into one very handsome tuxedo package. He just needs someone patient enough to let him settle in and show it. The best relationships are worth the wait, and Oscar is no exception. 🐾

Meet Poncho! 🖤

This handsome 2-year-old black lab is everything people love about the breed rolled into one goofy, happy package. Poncho absolutely loves people, lives for a good game of fetch, and if there’s water involved? Even better.

His favorite thing in the world is carrying his toys into the pool, dunking them underwater, and then proudly shaking them around like he’s accomplished something very important. It’s impossible not to laugh watching him have the time of his life.

Poncho is still a young dog with lots of energy and enthusiasm, so he will need some continued training and guidance as he grows into the best version of himself. The good news is that he’s already shown us just how smart he is, and he’s eager to learn when treats, toys, or attention are involved.

He’s the kind of dog who will happily join you for adventures, keep you entertained with his silly antics, and then crash at your feet when the day is done. Poncho has a huge personality, an even bigger heart, and he’s ready to find a family who will love him for exactly who he is.

Buddy is the kind of dog you don’t forget once you meet him. At 6 years old and 80lbs, this handsome German Shepherd has a huge presence, an even bigger head to scratch, and a heart that still has so much love left to give.

Through no fault of his own, Buddy found himself here after a tragic family event turned his world upside down. It’s clear he was loved, and it’s just as clear that losing the only life he knew has been confusing for him. Big changes are hard, especially for a loyal dog who simply wants stability and someone to call his person again.

Buddy is a BIG boy in every sense of the word. Big paws, big personality, big shepherd energy. He enjoys being near his people, soaking up attention, and keeping an eye on everything going on around him like any good shepherd would. He still has plenty of life, personality, and happiness ahead of him.

Buddy is unfortunately heartworm positive, but after evaluation, the vet has recommended a less invasive treatment plan due to his age. While this means he will need some extra care and management, it does NOT mean his life is over or that he can’t still enjoy the things dogs love most. Buddy is still more than capable of living a full, enriched, and happy life with the right home willing to give him that chance.

Buddy would do best as the only dog in the home, as he is not dog friendly. He has not yet been tested with cats, but we are happy to do so for approved adopters or serious inquiries.

What Buddy really needs now is someone willing to look past the diagnosis and see the dog standing in front of them. A loyal companion who has already lost so much and deserves the comfort of a home again.

Sneak peek at some of the adorable kittens currently in foster care! 🐾🤍

In the group of three, we have Cassius, Dixie, and Sprite from left to right. The two little ones are Teddy and Dixie. These tiny babies are spending time with one of our amazing kitten fosters where they’re getting all the love, care, and attention they need while they grow big and strong.

They may be small now, but their personalities are already starting to shine through, and we can’t wait to share more updates as they continue to grow. For now, they’re soaking up foster life and enjoying being spoiled until they’re ready to find their forever homes! 🐱✨
