Know Your Pet’s Normal 🐕🐈
You know your pet’s routines better than anyone.
That makes you an important part of recognizing when something may be wrong.

Pay attention to changes in:
🍽️ Appetite or drinking
💤 Energy and sleeping habits
🚽 Bathroom habits
🐾 Walking or movement
🫁 Breathing
❤️ Social behavior and personality

A change doesn’t always mean there’s an emergency, but sudden, severe, or worsening symptoms deserve attention. When you’re concerned about your pet’s health, contact your veterinarian for guidance. For emergencies, Beacon Veterinary Specialists is available 24/7.

When Is It an Emergency? 🚨

It isn’t always easy to know when your pet’s symptoms can wait for a regular appointment—or when they need immediate veterinary attention.

Some signs that warrant urgent evaluation include:
🚨 Difficulty breathing
🚨 Collapse or loss of consciousness
🚨 Severe or uncontrolled bleeding
🚨 Repeated vomiting or diarrhea with weakness
🚨 Seizures
🚨 Suspected toxin ingestion
🚨 Significant trauma
🚨 Sudden inability to stand or walk normally

When something feels seriously wrong, getting your pet evaluated promptly can make an important difference.
Beacon Veterinary Specialists is available for emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

🚑 What Happens When Your Pet Arrives at the ER?

At Beacon Veterinary Specialists, emergency visits start with triage—a quick assessment to determine how urgently your pet needs care.

From there, our emergency team may recommend diagnostics like blood work, digital x-rays, or ultrasound to better understand what’s going on and begin treatment as quickly as possible.

We know emergencies are stressful. Our team is here 24/7 to guide you through each step with urgency, clarity, and compassion.

☀️ Heatstroke Can Become an Emergency in Minutes
As temperatures rise, it's important to remember that pets can overheat much faster than people. Even a short walk during the hottest part of the day can put your pet at risk.

Watch for signs of heatstroke, including:
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Weakness or collapse
🐾 Vomiting or diarrhea
🐾 Bright red or pale gums
🐾 Difficulty breathing

If you think your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, don't wait. Move them to a cool area and seek veterinary care immediately.

Beacon Veterinary Specialists is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week—even weekends and holidays—to provide emergency care when every second counts.
