CLARIFICATION!
Maceration is NOT boiling!!!
Boiling at high temperatures can deplete the bone density and will make skulls become very brittle/fragile. Boiling can break down delicate bone structure including the nose turbinals. Boiling also will not remove the embedded grease within the skulls. It will first appear white, yet over time it will quickly darken as the grease leaches to the external parts of the skull. We understand this process, as we used to boil skulls when we first began doing Euro Mounts prior to starting TSS business. We do NOT boil skulls.
We offer maceration at a lower cost than beetle cleaning, as the beetle colonies have a hard time keeping up with the quantity of skulls we are working on for customers.
Maceration is equally as effective as beetles, while both preserve the trophy at a high quality.
Degreasing is one of the most important steps in preserving a skull and it is takes time for this process (typically 3 to 4 weeks).
Maceration and Beetle cleaning will complete the same "cleaning" process on a skull, yet by offering both processes to our customers, we can be more efficient to prep them for degreasing, peroxide bath, whitening, and sealing processes.
We do not boil and place on a plaque, there is much more involved.
Our prices have increased, yet the average price in MI is $150 for just a Euro cleaning. We feel that our systematic, detailed approach to preserve your trophy is very competitively priced to others who may not be as detailed in preservation of skulls.
Each skull on average, takes around 5-6 hours of labor to complete. It is a slow and tedious process to produce a quality product. We want to give you the best quality product in the end.
We appreciate and thank all of our previous and future customers for choosing Tank's Skull Shop to preserve your cherished trophy.
Best of Luck, as you hit the woods this season!
