Sit, Stay, Treat focuses on reward-based, personalized, in-home training! Our goal is to help you & your dog understand one another & build your bond.

We work with problem-behaviors like aggression, fear, reactivity & offer training courses. I'm Carmen Rea-Kodatt, a dog trainer in Freeport, IL. I've had a certificate in dog training since 2015. My main goal is to help you and your special companion work together to have a better relationship through behavioral training. My hope is to help dogs and their owners overcome behavioral challenges so they have a happier life and a stronger bond. Is your dog having trouble walking on a leash? Does your dog jump? Last Saturday we took Dodge to walk the Fast & Furriest 5K with Green County Humane Society

When Dodge first came to the shelter, he struggled with manners - he loves people but doesn’t really quite know how big & strong he is. We knew this was a great opportunity to work on manners, leash skills & show off his awesome personality! And who couldn’t fall for that adorable smile?! 🐶

Dodge is available for adoption through GCHS! When you adopt a dog, you also get a free training session with proof of your adoption contract. 😁

We’ve been working with this beauty & we can’t believe how much she has grown since we started! She’s currently working on impulse control to reduce chasing small critters & stop her from jumping on people. 🐶

Luna is working on getting comfortable around strangers. She isn’t the most confident & tends to shy away so we went to a local store to work on Engage, Disengage. Luna did super good & even let someone she just met pet her. 😄

In March we participated in the Pet Expo in Rockford & donated a basket for their raffle. Meet Paisley, the winner of that basket! We included a certificate for a free training package & we’re so excited that Paisley & her owner are working with us! How could you not love that face?!

Paisley is working on bettering her recall & jumping up when excited. Thank you for working with us! 😊

This handsome boy was struggling with impulse control. When staff would go to leash him, he would become mouthy & when he was leashed, he would grab/pull on the leash. These behaviors are common in shelter dogs especially the longer they remain at the shelter due to high levels of stress.

Working on these behaviors is not only beneficial for the dogs but for staff as well. Making for easier, more enjoyable walks for everyone!

Let’s make some mental enrichment boxes for shelter dogs!

These boxes are easy to make for your own pup! All you need is a small box, some kibble and/or treats, a toy & a washcloth.

We put a variety of items in the box to give the dogs plenty of mental stimulation! We wrap kibble in the washcloth so it becomes a good puzzle & works their nose! Just fold up the flaps of the box but not too much as you want your dog to still be able to get into the box.

Choose items that interest your pup or try something new inside!

Always monitor your pups to make sure they don’t ingest things they shouldn’t & to clean up those items right away.
