er husband, Alf! He attended 12 weeks of puppy training at Urban Dawgs and continues to learn by Danielle talking nonstop about training! He will also be taking behavior courses with Dr. Susan Friedman as Danielle did. We currently offer walks and drop-ins M-F 9am-4:30pm. We do not do any kind of pet sitting, boarding or extended stays, BUT we have referrals so please ask! If you need help outside of our posted hours, please ask as we might be able to accommodate you although we do not guarantee it. Please note: we will not walk dogs on any kind of correction based tools. This includes shock collars, choke collars, prong collars, etc. We prefer to walk all dogs on a harness so there is no pressure applied to their neck. We use the Freedom Harness as they fit most breeds and are easy to fit and put on your dog.

Yes, you read that correctly. There is a possibility that your pet insurance rates will increase by half! Please check your emails in case you also received this notice.

We have already written emails to our representatives .gopal as well as and our local town council members of to see if they could help get this seen by our lawmakers.

Many people will not be able to afford these absurd increases. This can easily lead to more pets being surrendered, or that they will go without the medical help they need and deserve to live long and healthy lives. As we already know, if your pet has any kind of medical history, it's considered a pre-existing condition making finding new insurance very difficult to impossible.

THIS NOT OK!!!!!!

Even if you do not have insurance, letting our representatives know how wrong this is would be helping others. Everyone hates AI, but it can help you write an appropriate email and find exactly who to send them to within seconds. Our pets deserve better than this 🙏🏻🐾❤️

Every day, 🎶 we wake up in the morning, thinking about so many things 🎶 we want to share with you. We feel today's lesson is the most important thing you'll hear...

Our absolute number one piece of advice that applies to every single person at any given moment out here walking their dog is: PAY ATTENTION, PUH-LEASE! 🙏🏻

Put your phones away and keep your heads in the game. You'll avoid so many issues! AND if you're actively engaging with your dogs, you'll be able to better circumvent or help them through any issues they might be having. It's a win win!

We don't want to have to flip any tables to get our point across, so please just heed our advice.

P.S. if all of the road users could also do this to keep we pedestrians safer, that would be great!

If you follow our page, you know that we are often inspired by some of our favorite bands to create positive, dog centric designs based off of their art. Last week, the hardcore community sadly lost Lou Koller, singer for Sick of It All... and this collaboration came to fruition. (I hope you're able to hear the music in this video featuring the song Us vs. Them)

SICK OF IT ALL in particular was there from the beginning for many of us. Starting in the 80's, this band was crazy influential in our formative years growing in the punk/hardcore music scene. Their music is obviously powerful, but it was their strong, postive and uplifting lyrics that really set the tone. They taught us to always stay true, to be ourselves, to have integrity, to fight for what's right and to help others when they're down. These simple, albiet important lessons, are something people in this community took to heart and still carry with us in our everyday lives. Thank you 🙏🏻

As you might have guessed from the video, Bella got sprayed by a skunk a few nights ago. Of course this always happens right before you're ready to go to bed, amiright?! Now you're spending the next hour or two cleaning instead of dreaming.

You cannot ignore this and worry about it in the morning or wait for it to go away. It's crucial to remove as much of the spray as possible immediately, especially if it hits their face. Eye (temp blindness), mouth & nose irritation (nausea, coughing, vomiting, etc.) skin damage (rashes) and in rare cases anemia can occur. Nevermind that the smell is absolutely horrendous and simply torturous to leave on an animal with up to 100,000x the amount of olfactory receptors that humans have.

🦨 First, wipe off your dog with a dry towel. Do not get your dogs wet as this will spread the oils in the spray and make things worse. Got gloves? Great.

🦨 Don't have store bought de-skunking stuff? Use home remedies! Tomato juice or a mix of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap (like Dawn) work well.

🦨 After using these remedies as directed, rinse your dog with water and then give them a proper bath with shampoo. A faint smell will probably linger for a bit, but it will not be nearly as intense.

Google offers a ton of advice on how to keep skunks away. From home & store bought remedies, suring up spots under fences or porches they can fit through, not keeping food out and securing garbage... does this always work? Unfortunately, no. (Ask us how we know lol)

The best thing you can do is to be diligent in checking the yard before your dog goes out at night. Especially spots where these critters can hide... like the empty pot by the fence that was blown by wind with the storms we were having 🤦🏻‍♀️

The firework celebrations of the 4th are over (well... we hope at least 🤞🏻) but your dogs might still be feeling some residual stress. Over the last 4 or 5 days, we had a heatwave, power outages crazy thunderstorms and of course, fireworks. Many dogs have concerns over these kinds of big sounds, vibrations, flashing lights, changes in pressure and even the smells.

Some dogs recover quickly from stressful events (within minutes, hours, or need a good night's rest) to be feeling like their normal selves again. Other dogs might need at least 3 or more days to fully decompress depending on how stressful these events were for them. Especially if the thunder and random fireworks keep happening intermittently.

If you noticed over the last day or so that your dog might be more barky, mouthy, jumpy, reactive to things on their walks, etc., these could all be signs that they need some more down time to get those cortisol levels back to normal.

If you've got a fenced in yard and your dog doesn't need a walk for potty breaks, skip it for a day or two. If you have to walk, shorten them up and pay lots of attention to notice if they're acting a little differently. Playing inside in the air conditioning is always a great, safe choice! Get a bunch of chewies out and use those enrichment toys, puzzles or other games (like Find It, tug or fetch) to you and your dog's advantage! An indoor sniffari game hiding treats around the house is always super fun for them 🫶🏻🐾

🇺🇲 Get food puzzles, Kongs, snuffle mats and other work to eat toys ready to go to keep them occupied. Did you know that chewing, along with sniffing, help dogs relieve stress?

🇺🇲 Have fans, music, TV or white noise machines available to help drown out the sounds of explosions. Doggie noise canceling ear muffs also exist!

🇺🇲 Keep windows closed and have curtains or blinds drawn to reduce the flashing of the lights. Don't have curtains? Use towels or blankets to temporarily cover windows.

🇺🇲 Get walks and outdoor play time in BEFORE the evening so they are fulfilled, empty, tired and don't need to go out until firework displays are over.

🇺🇲 Keep your dogs securely inside!!!! Scared dogs can easily get out of collars, harnesses, backyards, etc. Leave them safely indoors! Charge GPS collar devices and make sure tags and chips are up to date in case of escape.

🇺🇲 Comfort your dogs! You will not reinforce their fears by helping to soothe them. Tell them it's ok, sit with them, offer pets, whatever they need!

🇺🇲 If you can, devote a room in the house to your dog that is as "firework proofed" as possible. Have their crate, their pen, favorite toys, chewies, bed, blankets, etc. as well as site/sound blocking devices set up for them.

🇺🇲 If your dog likes the car, leave the area. Literally take them for a ride and go somewhere more peaceful.

🇺🇲 If your dog needs more help, seek out a fear free behaviorist and vet to get ahead of this for next year.

🇺🇲 If you're having a party, have a designated (sober) caretaker for your dog. Use indoor gates as guests may not be as diligent about keeping doors closed. Limit entrance/exits to one main door, keep all other doors and outdoor gates securely locked. If you have the space, give your dog a good sized secure area indoors away from guests and doors leading outside!

WOOF! The next few days are going to be HOT! As much as everyone suggests only going out early in the morning or later at night, dogs DO have to stretch their legs and potty mid-day. What we all need to do is use common sense.

🌡 Shorten walks. For example, just go up the block a bit instead of all of the way around.

🌡 Have water available whether you're on the go or at home. There are lots of portable options as well as "stay cold" bowls.

🌡 Take it slow, take frequent breaks and utilize any shade you find. Sometimes this means hanging on someone's lawn if there's a tree so apologies in advance!

🌡 Frozen Kongs or lick mats, pools, baby pools, sprinklers or the hose can provide some relief as well as fun! Just make sure the water isn't scorching!

🌡 Utilize mental enrichment games or light training to keep your pups fulfilled until it's cool enough to do more physical activities. Do this indoors or in cool, shaded areas. This is a good time for a lowkey sniffari!

🌡 Do your best to keep paws of off blacktop. Grass is always the best option.

🌡 Puppies, seniors, overweight, brachycephalic, dark or heavy/long coated and ill dogs are more susceptible to issues in the heat. Take extra precautions with them.

🌡 If you see a dog left out unattended for more than 30 minutes without water, adequate shelter from the sun/heat 90⁰+ or a dog left in a hot car, please call local non-emergency police. You might be saving a life 🙏🏻

Every dog is different, but you know your dogs best. Make sure you're staying engaged and paying attention to any signs of over-heating.

⚠️ Early signs of heatstroke include: heavy panting, rapid breathing, excessive drooling, dry mucous membranes, bright red gums and tongue, skin that’s hot to the touch, and a higher heart rate. Other more serious signs are diarrhea, vomiting, staggering and seizures.
