er husband, Alf! He attended 12 weeks of puppy training at Urban Dawgs and continues to learn by Danielle talking nonstop about training! He will also be taking behavior courses with Dr. Susan Friedman as Danielle did. We currently offer walks and drop-ins M-F 9am-4:30pm. We do not do any kind of pet sitting, boarding or extended stays, BUT we have referrals so please ask! If you need help outside of our posted hours, please ask as we might be able to accommodate you although we do not guarantee it. Please note: we will not walk dogs on any kind of correction based tools. This includes shock collars, choke collars, prong collars, etc. We prefer to walk all dogs on a harness so there is no pressure applied to their neck. We use the Freedom Harness as they fit most breeds and are easy to fit and put on your dog.

It's been a soggy few days, and like us, our dogs get bored. With limited outdoor time, you have to bring the fun inside! All of us have some boxes or other recyclables at our disposal, so put them to good use by making a game for your dogs!

Today we used paper towel rolls, a paper mailer and a small cardboard box we had laying around from deliveries. Just grab their favorite treats or food and toss them into the box, too easy! We used favorites from patties and mixers, Beefy Cheddar Puffs, Duck Stickles from and some meaty flavored cookies from cookie bar to fill this up.

Enrichment like this allows dogs to do a lot of their favorite things:

🐾 Sniffing
🐾 Foraging
🐾 Destructing
🐾 Chewing
🐾 Eating

Taking a few minutes to make this will make both you and your dog happy. They have something to do, they are satisfied and now they will probably even nap for a bit... and you can nap with them πŸ€—

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday we were sweating just standing and today we were wearing our hoodies! Both days these guys got to play their favorite sniff game, Find It, with the help of a big ole tree in their yard. We are grateful for the protection trees provide us, especially during the dog days of summer!

Please note: These two do not have any food guarding issues so this is a safe game for them. This is not always the case with multi-dog households. Safety precautions with proper management and separation protocols are necessary with dogs that resource guard.

On brutally hot days like today, early AM and later PM walks are safest, but not always practical. Your dogs will definitely need to potty mid-day when the day tends to be hottest. They can go outside, but you just need to be smart and safe about it.

πŸ₯΅ Shorten up those walks, keep them to strictly business trips!

πŸ₯΅ Try to stay in shaded and cool grassy areas and even bring some water along.

πŸ₯΅ Always take plenty of breaks and do your best to walk slower!

πŸ₯΅ Take playtime indoors!

πŸ₯΅ Save longer walks for cooler times of the day, or skip walking altogether as it's supposed to remain in the 80's all night.

Puppies, seniors, Brachycephalic, dark coated, overweight or ill dogs will have the hardest time in this weather so be especially cautious with them. You also need to worry about your own health so don't push it. None of us have had time to get acclimated to warmer temps as it's been pretty cool so far, so please be careful out there!

How to call your dog without calling your dog 10th BIRTHDAY EDITION πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³

Happy Birthday to our sweetest little baby Belly! We love you SO SO MUCH! We'll be having a little BBQ later where she'll be dining on a grassfed beef cheeseburger for dinner and some kind of pupcake that she'll probably bury instead of eat πŸ₯΄πŸ˜‚

Where are our fans?! Yesterday was pretty brutal for anyone suffering with allergies. Thankfully the rain washed some pollen away so today should be less sneezy! Did you know that dogs can also suffer from allergies from environmental to food?

It's important to recognize the signs that your dog might be allergic to something. Common symptoms include:

⚠️ Itching
⚠️ Skin infection (hot spots, redness, hair loss, etc.)
⚠️ Ear Infections
⚠️ Licking, especially paws
⚠️ Ye**ty smelling paws/ears
⚠️ Gastrointestinal issues

Once you notice any of these symptoms, it's important to work with your vet to provide relief for your dogs. Take note what your dog normally eats and any changes in their diet. Also, what time of the year as seasonal allergies are common, like pollen. The type of detergent or shampoo you use could also be a factor.

When you can pinpoint the allergen, making the necessary changes becomes easier. Your vet might also recommend medication to help your dog.

Sometimes your dog wants to check out... goats? Yes! This guy lives near a farm where he sees these goats regularly. By now, these animals have become pretty accustomed to each other and just kind of hang out for a few minutes and say "hi".

Is this something we can do with all of our clients?
- Nope!

Is this something you can work towards?
- Yup!

Will your dog be able to hang out with goats?
- Maybe. There are no guarantees with behavior and anyone saying there is, is not being truthful.

If this is something you'd like to work on, be it with goats, squirrels or other dogs, a helpful plan from a fear/force free trainer is your best bet! Remember to always have realistic expectations. Not every dog is capable of doing what you see other dogs do just because they're the same species or breed. They're individuals, just like us!
