Why do we desensitize?
First off it’s extremely important to know what the horse will do and how they will react to things that are scary! Twister here did not like the scary costume but he also is part Arab and know for being more spooky and high energy! Some horses unlike Twister hitting the end of the rope and coming to pressure. Some horses would keep pulling, some might buck, rear and kick out! So as it might seem mean to others to us it is important to know what the horse will do to keep us humans safe!
Secondly it gives people something to do to help them get more comfortable and more bonded with their horse. When watching the video you can tell Twister is afraid but he trust me enough to keep him safe and therefore he doesn’t just take off. If someone who was more timid and not knowing Twister well enough he would have taught that person how to sand ski.
Yes the probability of seeing is skin walker like this is super super slim, it is still good for us to try new things with our horses and for our selves too! The same thing does get boring fast!
So as my parents have told me, IF YOU DON’T HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY, DON’T SAY IT AT ALL!
