Monday Minute.

True relaxation in dressage isn’t something we create with softer reins or slower tempo — it’s something we build through connection. Connection is also much bigger than just rein contact. It’s the invisible conversation happening between your and your horse. It is the silent communication between your mind and your body, which is then shared with your horse.

Awareness, intention and emotional presence are not just feel-good exercises. They directly influence the relaxation that we create in the saddle.

🤔 Thinking Thursday

Traditional dressage teaches us that connection starts with the body: contact, alignment, correctness.

Partnership-based dressage asks us to zoom out:
• Is my horse confident in this work?
• Does this aid make sense to them?
• Am I listening as much as I’m directing?

Here’s the thing — these ideas don’t compete.
They work together.

Correct training gives us the structure.
Partnership gives it meaning.

When physical connection is built on top of trust, clarity, and fairness, the result isn’t just better movement — it’s a horse who wants to show up and try with you.

💭 Thinking Thursday question:
Do you notice a difference in your horse’s way of going when your focus shifts from “correct” to “connected”?

Let’s talk — this conversation matters. 💬🐴

Training Tip Tuesday. The Alternating Shoulder In - Half Pass Exercise is an excellent way to position the horse correctly for the half pass to keep the haunches from leading. The haunches leading is a fairly common mistake in the half pass. The rider tends to push the horse sideways too much. In this exercise, the rider will have to maintain the connection with the outside rein and stay sitting correctly to stop the half pass and begin the shoulder in again. This is really about balancing the aids and keep the horse aligned throughout the exercise. This exercise could be ridden in walk, trot or canter with a flying change at the change of direction depending on where the horse and rider are in their training.
