Look at that smile!

Loki was absolutely loving the sunshine with his Dog Krazy daycare crew! He made sure to get front and center for the photo while all his daycare buddies were busy playing behind him.

Sunny days, outdoor playtime, plenty of exercise, and a whole crew of friends to hang out with, we’d say Loki had a pretty great day!

Our Gayton Crossing location is closed for the rest of today due to an area-wide power outage. The electric company does not expect power to be restored until tonight, so we’re closing up for the day.

Our Carytown and Short Pump locations remain open until 6 PM and are happy to help with anything you need!

Looking for a new way to keep your dog busy AND make yourself laugh?

Meet the Snoggy Dog Quacker and Oinker!

These enrichment toys are shaped like a duck bill and a pig snoot, and when your dog sticks their nose inside to get the treats out, trust us, you’re going to laugh!

Fill them with your dog’s favorite treats or food and let them sniff, investigate, and work to get every last bite. They’re a fun way to encourage natural foraging and problem solving while providing some extra mental stimulation.

Meet Calypso, and get ready to fall in love.

Calypso is a 3 year old Pitty who was recently adopted, and his mom stopped by our Gayton Crossing store for the first time just to check us out. She already knew how lovable her new boy was, but she probably wasn’t expecting the entire Dog Krazy crew to fall madly in love with him too.

Especially Jo.

These two became instant best friends. Jesse even joked that Jo was going to have to go home with Calypso because they were practically inseparable by the end of his visit.

Calypso’s mom wanted to make sure her newly adopted boy had the very best, and Jo took the time to ask questions, learn about Calypso, and help his mom find exactly what he needed. He headed home with new food, a collar and leash, supplements, No Hides, toys, and plenty more.

But our favorite part was hearing how much his mom appreciated the way Jo and the rest of our crew treated Calypso like family. That is exactly how we want every pet who walks through our doors to feel.

Welcome to the Dog Krazy family, Calypso. We have a feeling you’re going to be getting LOTS of attention every time you come back.

Turn your dog’s chewing time into teeth cleaning time with the Woof Bite N’ Brush!

CUSTOMER QUESTION OF THE WEEK

“Why can’t I just have my pelted/matted dog bathed?”

Because a pelted coat is not simply tangled. It is severely matted hair that has tightened together against your dog’s skin, and bathing it will not fix it.

Seeing tight mats on a dog breaks my heart. We've all experienced tangles in our hair or our children's hair and we know how painful they can be to brush out. Now imagine that all over your entire body....

Matting happens between grooming appointments. If you have a dog with a coat that requires regular brushing and combing, that maintenance has to happen at home. Brushing only the top layer of the coat is not enough. You need to brush all the way down to the skin and follow with a comb to make sure there are no tangles hiding underneath.

Once a coat becomes pelted, we are not going to put your dog through hours of painful brushing and pulling just to save the hair. Your dog’s comfort comes before the length of their coat. We always put the dog first.

So no, we cannot “just bathe them.” Water can tighten existing mats, moisture can become trapped against the skin, and properly cleaning and drying a severely pelted coat can be extremely difficult.

If our groomer tells you that your dog needs to be shaved because of severe matting, it is not because they “don’t want to brush them.” It is because removing the pelted coat is often the safest and most humane option for the dog in front of them.

If you want your dog to stay fluffy, regular grooming appointments AND proper brushing and combing at home are necessary.

Your groomer can maintain a healthy coat with you, but they cannot undo weeks or months of missed coat maintenance in a single appointment without putting your dog through unnecessary discomfort.

Brush your dogs. Comb your dogs. Keep them on a regular grooming schedule.

Your dog, and your groomer, will thank you.
