Get yourself a Meatball!

(This may or may not have been shared by Kaitlynn’s dog Meatball in solidarity of a fellow feline Meatball needing a home)

Meatball is not like other cats.

You thought you were cat savvy? Cute.

Meatball is a dog disguised as a cat who is secretly running an organized crime operation out of your living room. She is fat. She is sassy. She is deeply committed to being involved in whatever you are doing and then taking over to show you how to do it right.

Overstimulated? Never heard of her. Always stimulated.

Meatball doesn’t need you to understand her. She needs you to respect the hierarchy, know how to use a feather wand toy, and for you to be okay with occasionally getting fluffed up if you cross the line. She has the confidence of someone who owns the building and the audacity of someone who definitely has a guy. She’s basically a mob boss with whiskers and absolutely no interest in pretending otherwise. She's not for everyone, and she's okay with that.

And no. Absolutely no kids.

A little behind the scenes from a 9 patient day with the Auravet team!

From goats and pigs to puppies and kittens, no two days look the same, and that’s exactly how we like it. Every family has different needs, and it’s a privilege to be able to meet our patients where they’re most comfortable while getting to know the wonderful people who love them.

A quick holiday reminder: if your pet will need anxiety medication for the Fourth of July, please reach out tomorrow when we open at noon to request a refill. We’ll be closed on July 4th, so we’d love to help you get everything squared away before the holiday.

Also, another shoutout to Pilates | Nutrition | Fredericksburg, VA for helping to get our day started right🫶🏼💛

Thanks for following along! 🩺🐾🚙

The Auravet team is having a sleepover tonight to prepare for Fredericksburg Pride tomorrow! 🌈🐾

One thing you’ll quickly learn about us is that we’re just three friends who share a passion for making veterinary care accessible and inclusive for our community. Tonight we’re all at Dr. Aebli’s house getting everything ready so we can spend tomorrow meeting all of you!

If you’re coming to Pride, come find us at Booth #32! Stop by, meet our team, and learn more about what we do! We’ll be giving out lots of fun goodies and doing some fun pride flag face painting!💖🎨🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates freedom, resilience, and community.

While Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free, its meaning is deeply connected to the history of Fredericksburg and the surrounding region. Freedom did not arrive all at once, and the path to liberation was often shaped by the courage of people who seized it for themselves.

In the spring and summer of 1862, more than 10,000 enslaved people from Fredericksburg and neighboring counties crossed the Rappahannock River into Union lines in what is considered one of the largest acts of self-emancipation in American history. Men, women, and children left behind everything they had known in pursuit of a better future, many beginning that journey right here in our community.

The story of Juneteenth is not only about emancipation, but about the generations of Black Americans who built families, communities, businesses, institutions, and movements despite enormous and unrelenting obstacles. It is a story of perseverance, achievement, culture, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.

As we reflect on our local history and celebrate this day, we also recognize that the work of building a more just and equitable society is ongoing. The end of slavery did not mark the end of injustice, and the systems that create barriers to opportunity, safety, healthcare, housing, education, and economic stability did not disappear overnight. Those systems still exist and continue to affect communities today.

We hope today is a day of celebration, learning, reflection, and meaningful conversation. A day to honor those who fought for freedom, recognize those who continue that work today, and consider what role each of us can play in addressing the inequities that still exist.

Happy Juneteenth from the Auravet team. ❤️🖤💚
