SPCA of Fredericksburg

SPCA of Fredericksburg The Fredericksburg SPCA is a life-saving, humane organization. The Fredericksburg SPCA is not a municipal shelter.

The Fredericksburg Regional SPCA is a non-profit, lifesaving humane organization dedicated to the principle that every life is unique and worthy of protection. As a local leader in humane care and education, the Fredericksburg SPCA's mission is to tackle the problem of pet overpopulation through education, adoption, rehabilitation, and spay/neuter. The organization saves the lives of many homeless

animals each year and cares for approximately 250 cats and dogs daily. We are not affiliated with any other animal welfare organization. We are an independent shelter that must raise 100% of our annual budget.

Virginia is for Dog Lovers, and El is ready to make it her stage!

She’ll be right there with you for golden summer hikes, relaxed autumn picnics, and every seasonal moment in between. In winter, you’ll likely spot her ears first, peeking out of the snow long before the rest of her catches up.

Her favorite places have been open spaces...wide fields, quiet lakes, anywhere she can take in the world through sound, scent, and movement. She prefers to be the only pup on your SUP, so if you are looking for your right-hand adventure gal, El would like to put in her application.

After a full day with you, El shifts easily into calm companion mode, happy to settle in for quiet time and close company. She brings together an explorer’s spirit with an easy, affectionate presence - an ideal match for someone who wants both activity and downtime in one very photogenic partner.

Summertime means hot weather and bbq celebrations! Keep your beloved pets safe by paying attention to a few tips!

🐾 Always keep pets away from the grill and charcoal
Hot grills stay dangerous long after cooking, and dropped charcoal or grease can cause burns or be eaten.

🐾 Watch out for toxic foods!
Avoid giving pets onions, garlic, grapes, alcohol, chocolate, and heavily seasoned or greasy foods. Even small amounts can be harmful and plates left unattended, or trash left uncovered can be tempting.

🐾 Be especially careful with corn cobs and bones
Corn cobs will cause dangerous blockages, and cooked bones can splinter and injure the mouth or intestines. Dispose of them securely right away, and not in the compost if pets can get to it.

🐾 Protect pets from heat stress
Warm weather and busy outdoor gatherings can quickly lead to overheating. Make sure pets always have shade, fresh water, and a cool place to retreat indoors. Don't leave your pets in cars ever, ever, everrrrr. Just. Don't.

🐾 Mind the doors and guests coming and going
With people frequently entering and exiting, pets can slip outside unnoticed. Assign someone to watch doors or use barriers to prevent escapes.

A photo series of adoptable Lemon experiencing the absolute highlight of her day: spotting one of her favorite staff members, David. 💛

Slide 1: Before seeing David.
Slide 2: After seeing David.
Slide 3: Sitting with David.

The crescendoing joy is truly a work of art.

Thanks to people like you, Lemon is getting the care she needs to feel her best. She was recently returned to us after gaining a significant amount of weight, and our veterinary team discovered an underlying hypothyroid condition was the cause. Because of your support, we were able to run diagnostics, get answers, and start her on the medication she needs.

Now Lemon is on the road to better health and back to being the beautiful bestie we all know and love. Come and meet her with our other adoptables from 12 - 6pm!

Week 1 of Compassionate Care Camp was a huge success!!

Our campers spent the week learning about animal welfare, enjoying hands-on time with dogs and cats, exploring our clinic, and getting a special visit and demonstration from Spotsylvania Animal Control. A big thank you to their team for taking time out of their day to share their knowledge and help make the experience even more memorable.

We had an amazing first week and cannot wait to see what Week 2 has in store.

There are still a limited number of spots available in our remaining summer sessions. To learn more and register, visit fredspca.org/humaneed.
