Have you ever wanted to name a goat?

How about a character in a novel?

Well, THIS IS YOUR MOMENT.

The silent auction at Downtown Greens' Down Home Ball: From Farm to Fancy is shaping up to be something pretty spectacular, and we have some truly fabulous things up for grabs!

We're talking:

- Our very own exclusive Downtown Greens honey! Straight from our gardens and made by some very hardworking little ladies.
- Tickets and experiences from local museums
- Family outings to the ballpark
- Climbing walls and outdoor adventures
- W**e tastings and bottles of w**e
- Date night packages featuring local restaurants and hotels
- Beautiful art and custom framing
- Gift baskets filled with goodies from local coffee shops, a sweets shop, and a distillery
- Gift certificates for classes, wellness experiences, downtown shopping, and tours
- Escape room adventures
- The opportunity to name an actual GOAT
- The chance to name a character in a NOVEL

And SO MUCH MORE!

Seriously, there's something for just about everyone. Whether you're looking for a fabulous date night, a family adventure, a little self-care, some local treasures, or the opportunity to give a farm animal a deeply ridiculous name, we've got you covered.

And the best part? Every winning bid helps Downtown Greens continue our work in conservation, environmental education, food access, and caring for nearly 60 acres of green space right here in Fredericksburg.

But you can't bid if you're not there!

Join us Saturday, November 7, from 6–9:30pm at Brock's Riverside Grille for delicious food, live music from Ladia, raffles, our incredible silent auction, and a whole lot of farm fancy fun!

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW!

Come for the party. Stay for the auction. Leave with honey, an adventure, or naming rights to a goat.

We really hope someone names the goat something ridiculous.

The woods are calling, and we think you should answer!

Join us this Saturday, October 24, at 11am for a guided Nature Walk at the beautiful Belman Road Campus!

Our fabulous Land Manager, Em Ford, will lead us on an exploration of the 56-acre property, sharing fascinating facts about the plants, wildlife, and ecosystems that make this place so special.

Autumn is a wonderful time to explore the woods! The leaves are changing, the temperatures are cooling, and the forest is busy preparing for winter. Come see what's happening out there and learn a thing or two along the way!

Whether you're a seasoned nature nerd or just someone who enjoys a good walk in the woods, we'd love to have you!

IT'S TIME TO GET BARKING!

The Downtown Greens Best in the Bark contest is officially underway, and we're on a mission to find the most magnificent, marvelous, downright fabulous trees in Fredericksburg!

Got a favorite tree? Maybe it's a towering oak that's been around longer than your grandparents. Maybe it's a beautiful maple putting on its annual autumn fashion show. Or maybe it's just a weird little tree with a lot of personality. We love those, too.

Whatever makes your tree special, WE WANT TO SEE IT!

We're accepting photo submissions through November 15, so grab your camera, find your favorite leafy (or formerly leafy) friend, and send us a picture!

Submit your tree here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdDNUc0yZbeVvbneRKaMRRO9G60juAHDSSKMMevMwJqzkHjFA/viewform?usp=send_form

Want to check out the competition? We've already got some beautiful contenders, and you can admire them right here:
https://www.downtowngreens.org/best-in-the-bark-entries

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Photo submissions: Now through November 15

Voting: November 16 – December 15

Once submissions close, the voting begins! You'll have a whole month to vote for your favorites and help decide which tree earns the coveted title of Best in the Bark!

So get out there, hug a tree (with consent, obviously), snap a picture, and help us celebrate the wonderful trees that make our community a little greener, a little cooler, and a whole lot more beautiful.

May the best bark win!

THERE'S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN!

Well, not an actual sheriff. Nobody's getting arrested. Probably.

But, as you have probably heard by now, there IS a new leader at Downtown Greens, and we are absolutely THRILLED to introduce our new Executive Director, Janelle Kennedy!

Janelle brings a wealth of nonprofit experience, a passion for community, and the kind of enthusiasm that makes the rest of us want to put on our gardening gloves and get things DONE!

We are ridiculously excited about this next chapter for Downtown Greens, and we want YOU to get to know the fabulous human who's helping lead us into it.

Fortunately, the AMAZING Ted Schubel sat down with Janelle for an interview about her background, her vision for Downtown Greens, and what the future holds for our little corner of Fredericksburg's green universe.

Give it a watch, get to know our new boss lady, and join us in giving Janelle a big, enthusiastic Downtown Greens welcome!

Some people bring a dish to the potluck. Some people bring a bottle of w**e. And some people help make the whole dang party possible!

Today we're giving a big, enthusiastic THANK YOU to Teresa Towle, one of the wonderful sponsors of this year's Down Home Ball: From Farm to Fancy!

Teresa's generosity helps us put on a fabulous evening while raising money for the gardens, conservation, food access, and environmental education programs that Downtown Greens provides to our community. We couldn't do this without people like her!

Now, speaking of fabulous evenings...

WE WANT YOU AT THE BALL!

Join us November 7 from 6–9:30pm at Brock's Riverside Grille for delicious food, live music from Ladia, raffles, a silent auction, and the opportunity to see what happens when a bunch of garden people put on their fancy clothes.

Want to attend? Buy a ticket!

BEST IN THE BARK: FREDERICKSBURG EDITION!

Do you know a tree with a little extra personality? A magnificent oak? A spectacular sycamore? A tree so ridiculously beautiful that you feel compelled to tell strangers about it?

Well, it's time for that tree to get the recognition it deserves!

Downtown Greens is launching Best in the Bark: Fredericksburg Edition, a competition to celebrate the fabulous trees in our community!

From October 15 through November 15, we're inviting you to submit a photo of your favorite tree, along with a little explanation of why your leafy friend deserves to be crowned the best of the best.

Our new Executive Director, Janelle Kennedy, has already thrown down the gauntlet with a gorgeous photo of a snow-covered tree. Apparently, she's been on the job for approximately five minutes and is already picking fights with local tree enthusiasts.

We love this energy.

Think you've got a tree that can take her down? We want to see it!

And there's more than just botanical bragging rights at stake. The winning tree will receive a commemorative plaque proclaiming its superiority over all the other trees. Imagine the envy of the neighboring maples.

Here's how it works:

- October 15–November 15: Submit your tree photo and tell us why it's special.

- November 16–December 15: The public votes for their favorite tree!

- December 18: The winner is announced and tree-related glory ensues!

Trees located in Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Caroline, and King George counties are eligible.

Submit your tree here: https://forms.gle/JVrUX2BZ2XBJk3259

Voting information and contest details:https://www.downtowngreens.org/best-in-the-bark

Whether your tree is majestic, quirky, ancient, or just has a particularly impressive set of limbs, we want to give it its moment in the sun.

Let the tree-mendous competition begin!
