🎃🐐 Painting Pumpkins & Making Memories at CVC! 🐐🎨

This month’s CVC team event was a little different… we painted with GOATS! 🍂🐐

That’s right! Our team got together to paint some adorable fall and Halloween pumpkins, and our relief doctor, Dr. Gravelle, brought along her goats to join in on the fun! These sweet cuties got up close and personal with everyone, making the day even more special. ❤️ There was plenty of laughter, lots of creativity, and memories made along the way! Everyone had an absolute blast painting pumpkins and spending time with our four-legged visitors. 🧡

🐐 Did you know? Here are a few fun goat facts!
🍁 Goats have rectangular-shaped pupils, which give them a wide field of vision to help spot potential predators.
🎃 Goats are incredibly curious and love to explore their surroundings!
❤️ Goats are social animals and form strong bonds with other goats and their companions.

We’re so grateful for opportunities to step away from the day-to-day and enjoy some fun together as a team. A huge thank-you to Dr. Gravelle for bringing her adorable goats and helping make this month’s event one to remember! 🐐🍁

🎃👻 HALLOWEEN IS COMING! 👻🎃

Halloween can be a fun night for us, but all the costumes, visitors, doorbells, loud noises, and festivities can be overwhelming for our furry family members. 🐶🐱💗

If your pet needs medication to help keep them calm and comfortable during Halloween, please don’t wait until the last minute! 🩺💊

📋 A current exam is required for any prescription medications.

☎️ We recommend calling at least 48–72 hours in advance to allow enough time to get any necessary exam and prescriptions completed.

⏰ The sooner, the better! Our schedule can fill up quickly as Halloween approaches, and we want to make sure you have everything you need before the festivities begin.

🍫 And don’t forget about Halloween safety!
Keep all candy, chocolate, and other Halloween treats completely out of your pet’s reach. Many popular Halloween candies can be dangerous for pets, and even candy wrappers can cause problems if swallowed. 🚫🍬🐾

🕯️ Keep candles, decorations, glow sticks, and electrical cords where curious pets can’t get to them.

🚪 With trick-or-treaters coming and going, make sure your pets are safely secured away from the front door. This can help prevent accidental escapes and reduce stress from all the activity.

🎃 A little preparation goes a long way! Let’s keep Halloween fun, safe, and stress-free for the whole family—including our four-legged family members. ❤️🐾

If your pet needs medication for Halloween, give us a call TODAY! 📞🩺
Remember: 48–72 hours minimum—the sooner, the better! 👻🐶🐱

🩺🐾 **HAPPY VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK!** 🐾🩺

This week, we’re celebrating some of the most hardworking, compassionate, and essential members of our veterinary team — **our veterinary technicians!** ❤️

Our techs do SO much more than meets the eye. From drawing blood and placing IV catheters to monitoring anesthesia, taking radiographs, assisting with surgery, caring for hospitalized patients, running laboratory tests, educating clients, comforting nervous pets, and somehow keeping everything moving when the day gets crazy — they truly do it all! 🐶🐱

But what makes our techs so special isn’t just their medical knowledge and skills. It’s the compassion they show every single day. They are there for our patients during some of their most vulnerable moments, and they treat every patient like they were their own. 🥹❤️

To our amazing CVC techs: **Thank you.** Thank you for your dedication, your patience, your long days, your willingness to jump in wherever you’re needed, and most importantly, for the love you pour into every patient that walks through our doors.

Veterinary medicine simply wouldn’t be the same without you. 🩷

Join us in giving a HUGE shoutout to our incredible veterinary technicians this week! 🎉🐾

**Happy Vet Tech Week to the best team around!** 🩺💗

🐾🐈‍⬛ **Happy National Feral Cat Day!** 🐈‍⬛🐾

Today, we’re celebrating the cats who may not always have a cozy bed, a warm lap, or a home to call their own—but who still deserve **kindness, compassion, and quality care.** ❤️

Feral cats are domestic cats who are not socialized to people and may live outdoors in colonies. While they may not be comfortable being handled like a typical house cat, that doesn’t mean they don’t deserve our help!

One of the most important ways we can help community and feral cats is through **TNR — Trap, Neuter, Return.** 🩺🐱

✨ **Trap** — Humanely trap the cat for veterinary care.
✨ **Neuter** — Have them spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and examined.
✨ **Return** — Return them to their outdoor home so they can continue living safely within their colony.

TNR helps reduce unwanted litters and can improve the overall health and wellbeing of community cat populations. 🐾

At **Compassion Veterinary Center**, we believe that every animal deserves compassion—whether they spend their days curled up on the couch or navigating life outdoors. ❤️

So today, take a moment to show a little extra kindness to the community cats in your neighborhood. A little compassion can make a BIG difference. 🐈‍⬛💕

**Do you have a feral or community cat that you care for? Tell us about them in the comments!** 👇🐾

🩺🐾 **VET MED FUN FACTS!** 🐾🩺

How well do you really know your pets? 🤔🐶🐱
Here are a few fun veterinary facts that might surprise you!

🐕 **Dogs have a third eyelid!**
It’s called the *nictitating membrane* and helps protect the eye while keeping it lubricated.

🐈 **Cats can’t taste sweetness!**
Unlike humans and dogs, cats lack the taste receptors needed to detect sweet flavors. 🍭🚫

🦷 **Dogs have 42 adult teeth!**
Cats have 30 adult teeth. Just like us, their teeth can develop plaque, tartar, and dental disease—making regular dental care important!

🐶 **A dog’s nose print is unique!**
Much like a human fingerprint, the pattern on a dog’s nose is unique to that individual pup. 🐾

🐱 **Cats spend a LOT of time grooming!**
Some cats can spend up to half of their waking hours grooming themselves. Talk about being high maintenance! 😂

❤️ **Your pet’s heart rate is different from yours!**
Dogs and cats normally have much faster heart rates than humans, and their normal ranges can vary depending on species, size, age, and excitement level.

🩺 **Veterinary medicine is SO much more than vaccines!**
Our veterinary teams work with everything from preventative care and dentistry to surgery, laboratory diagnostics, imaging, pain management, nutrition, emergency care, and so much more!

✨ **BONUS FUN FACT:**
Veterinary medicine has an entire world of specialties—from cardiology and dermatology to oncology, internal medicine, surgery, and even veterinary behavior!

🐾 **How many of these did you already know?**
Drop your number in the comments! 👇
And if you learned something new, share this post with another pet parent! ❤️

🐾 Did you know that before there was Compassion Veterinary Center, there was Compassion Animal Rescue? 🐾

That’s right! Before opening our doors as Compassion Veterinary Center, our owners, Maddie & David, founded Compassion Animal Rescue with a mission to give dogs the love, care, and second chances they deserve. ❤️

When the opportunity came along to purchase Lees Hill Pet Hospital, that dream grew into what we know today as Compassion Veterinary Center! 🩺🐶

Our connection to Compassion Animal Rescue is something we are incredibly proud of. We love being able to work hand-in-hand with the rescue and play a part in caring for these amazing dogs as they make their way toward finding their forever homes.

📍 Compassion Animal Rescue is located just 2 minutes down the road from us! Their mission is simple: provide the best care possible and help each dog find the loving forever home they deserve.

So, if you’ve been thinking about adding a four-legged family member to your home, consider adopting from Compassion Animal Rescue! 🐕💗

You never know… your new best friend could be waiting just down the road. 🐾🏡❤️

🐶❤️ October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month! ❤️🐶

Every dog deserves a safe place to call home, a family to love them, and the chance to live the happy, healthy life they deserve.

Adopt a Shelter Dog Month is a reminder that when you adopt, you're not just gaining a pet—you’re changing a life forever. Behind every shelter dog is a story of resilience, hope, and the opportunity for a brighter future. Whether they're a playful puppy, an energetic adventure buddy, or a gentle senior looking for a quiet place to rest, every shelter dog deserves a second chance.

At Compassion Veterinary Center, this cause is especially meaningful to us because it's part of who we are.

Over 30 years ago, the Maitland's began their business journey by founding Dominion Steel Inc. in Fredericksburg, Virginia. As the years went on, their passion for helping animals inspired them to rescue countless dogs in need by founding Compassion Animal Rescue (CARE). Today, another dream has become a reality—owning a veterinary hospital right across the street from the rescue they built with so much love and dedication.

Their commitment has always been about more than rescuing animals—it's about giving them every opportunity to thrive.

The mission of Compassion Animal Rescue (CARE) is to prevent cruelty to animals by rescuing and caring for stray, abandoned, neglected, abused, and injured animals. CARE provides lifesaving medical treatment, microchipping, spay and neuter services, and loving foster homes before placing dogs in their forever families. They also believe education is key, helping our community understand the importance of spaying and neutering, preventative healthcare, and responsible pet ownership.

Every adoption creates space for another life to be saved.

🐾 Thinking about adding a dog to your family?
Consider adoption first. Your new best friend may already be waiting for you.

When you adopt, you're not just saving one life—you become part of a much bigger story of compassion, hope, and second chances.

❤️ We invite you to learn more about Compassion Animal Rescue (CARE), browse adoptable dogs, or find out how you can volunteer, foster, or donate by visiting:
https://www.compassionanimalrescue.com/

If you've adopted a shelter dog—whether from CARE or another rescue—we'd love to celebrate with you! Share a photo and tell us your adoption story in the comments. Your story might inspire someone else to open their heart to a dog in need.

Together, we can give more dogs the loving forever homes they deserve.
