🐾 Foreign Bodies: More Common Than You Think! 🐾

Dogs and cats are naturally curious, and sometimes that curiosity leads them to swallow things they shouldn’t—whether it’s socks, toys, rocks, corn cobs, string, or other household items. When these objects become lodged in the stomach or intestines, they can quickly turn into a life-threatening emergency.

⚠️ Signs your pet may have a foreign body include:
• Repeated vomiting or gagging
• Loss of appetite
• Excessive drooling
• Lethargy or weakness
• Abdominal pain or a swollen belly
• Diarrhea or difficulty passing stool
• Restlessness or signs of discomfort

As you can see from the photos, we’ve removed foreign bodies ranging from large amounts of grass, rocks, and even unexpected items like fake nails and metal collars. Pets can swallow the most surprising things, so if you suspect your furry friend has eaten something they shouldn’t, don’t wait to seek veterinary care. Early diagnosis and treatment can make all the difference.

🇺🇸 Happy Fourth of July from Compassion Veterinary Center!❤️🤍💙

While you're celebrating with family and friends, don't forget about your four-legged family members!

Fireworks, loud gatherings, and holiday festivities can be overwhelming for many pets. Keep them safe with these simple tips:

🐾 Keep pets indoors in a quiet, secure room during fireworks.

🏷️ Make sure collars fit properly and ID tags/microchip information are up to date.

🎶 Play calming music or white noise to help mask loud sounds.

🚪 Keep doors, gates, and windows securely closed to prevent escape.

🦴 Offer a favorite toy, treat, or enrichment activity to help distract them.

🚫 Never bring pets to fireworks displays—they can become frightened and bolt unexpectedly.

🍔 Keep holiday foods, alcohol, and sparklers out of reach, as many can be dangerous for pets.

Wishing you and your furry family members a safe, happy, and stress-free Independence Day! 🇺🇸🐶🐱
