DogFluent Training

DogFluent Training I help Fredericksburg area families train their dogs with kindness, science & zero force in the comfort of their own homes and neighborhoods. No fear. No force.

DogFluent Training is owned and operated by Amy Ellis, who helps overwhelmed dog moms and dads turn daily struggles — like leash-pulling, jumping, barking, and more — into calm, connected behavior. Amy's training is ethical, science-based, and actually feels good for both dogs and their humans. Just real-life results that stick.

What you don’t see before your training session: 🐾

📋 Reviewing your dog’s history and notes
🧠 Planning exactly what we’ll do together
🎒 Packing the right treats, gear, and backup plans
☕ One last coffee (okay, two)

Every session is personalized, because your dog isn’t “every dog.”

By the time I show up at your door, I’ve already been thinking about your pup for hours.

That’s what kind, positive training looks like in action.

Tag a dog parent who deserves this kind of care. 💛

What’s one thing your dog trained YOU to do? 🐾

Be honest.

Mine has me trained to:

🐕 Let her smell my breath after every meal.

🐕 When she shakes her head & flaps her ears it’s time to get out of bed & let her out to potty.

🐕 Stand on the sidewalk waiting for 15 minutes while she watches squirrels in the tree.

Turns out, training goes both ways. 😅

Tell me yours in the comments. I know I’m not the only one. 👇

You’re not a bad dog parent.

Some dogs need more than love.

They need structure, support, and sometimes professional guidance.

That doesn’t mean you failed, it means you’re paying attention.

Asking for help is one of the best things you can do for your dog.

If this is you, DM “FREE CALL” and let’s talk. 💛

Tink came into my life and changed everything.

She taught me so many lessons...

That training isn’t about control, it’s about connection.

That “bad” behavior is communication that can indicate pain, confusion, fear, stress, or that dogs may have needs that are going unmet.

That having a medical condition often leaves our dogs feeling vulnerable and frightened, which can look like reactivity or aggression.

That humans and dogs are both capable of so much when we work together as a team.

Every dog teaches you something if you’re willing to listen.

She’s a big part of why I do this work the way I do.

Now I want to hear from you: Where did your dog come from?

Drop your story in the comments.

Does your dog get clingy when you’re feeling overwhelmed?

Have you noticed them acting weird before you have a big meeting?

Maybe they mirror your energy when you’re having a tough day?

If so, your dog may be smelling cortisol in your sweat before you even realize you’re anxious.

They don’t just sense “something’s off.” They literally detect the stress hormone leaving your body.

Your dog’s not being “dramatic.” They’re responding to YOU.

Keep this in mind the next time your dog seems anxious on a
walk and maybe check in with your own mental state.

Save this if you needed this reminder. 💛

Our wonderful foster dog, Lily refuses to go out to potty while it’s raining. Even just slight drizzling is too much for her sensibilities. 🙄 But squirrel watching? Nah! Rain is not a deterrent! 😂 What kind of goofy things does your dog do?

You could have picked the puppy everyone wanted. The healthy or easy one. The one with no issues.

But you didn’t.

You chose the difficult dog. The overlooked animal that nobody else saw.

And you showed up anyway, day after day after day.

Thank you.

The world needs more people like you.

Science confirms that the dog-owner bond mirrors the parent-child attachment style. 🐾

Like children, dogs use their owners as a “secure base” when exploring new environments.

That’s why your dog:
🐕 Checks back with you in unfamiliar places
🐕 Gets braver when you’re calm and confident
🐕 Struggles more when they’re unsure if you’ve got them

You’re their safe place.

Your bond is the foundation of every training win.

Send this to someone who IS their dog’s safe place. 💛

Fredericksburg dog parents, did you know that a 2015 study shows that mutual gazing increases oxytocin levels in both dogs AND their humans?

Another cool finding from this study concluded that human-like methods of communication, like the mutual gaze, may have come about during dogs’ domestication with humans.

Additionally, wolves hardly ever make eye contact with their human handlers, and appear resistant to the oxytocin effect.

Petting them lowers cortisol.

Being near them calms heart rate.

Your dog isn’t just keeping you company, you’re regulating one another’s nervous systems!

Save this for the days you need a reminder. 💛
