🐴 A HISTORIC DAY FOR HORSES 🐴

After decades of operation, Canada's largest horse slaughterhouse — Bouvry Exports in Fort Macleod, Alberta — has officially closed its doors for good.

This is the place where thousands of horses every year met their end. Former racehorses. Retired working horses. Family companions sold at auction. Wild horses. Many of them shipped from the United States, kept in feedlots for months, then slaughtered to supply the horse meat trade in Japan and Europe.

For years, activists, journalists, and ordinary horse lovers fought to expose what was happening inside those walls. Undercover footage. Investigations. Protests. Petitions. Voices that refused to be silenced.

And today, that fight paid off. 💔🤍

The Canadian Horse Defence Coalition has confirmed that Bouvry Exports is permanently closed and no longer accepting horses for slaughter.

For every horse lover who has ever looked into the eyes of a horse and seen a soul looking back — this victory is for you. For the rescue organizations who outbid kill buyers at auctions. For the volunteers who stood in the cold holding signs. For the journalists who refused to look away.

But the work isn't finished. 🐴

Horse slaughter still exists in Canada at Viande Richelieu in Quebec. Live horse exports to Japan still happen by plane. And there are growing fears that horse slaughter could return to the United States to fill the gap.

So today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we keep fighting.

Every horse deserves to live out their days in a pasture, not a slaughterhouse. 🤍

HORSE ALERT! Hi all. I am looking for a bombproof child safe horse for my grandkids, ages 4 and 10. Most breeds considered and both mares & geldings also considered. Age 6ish or so to Age 12ish or so. Registered would be nice but not absolutely necessary. Safety is the primary concern. I am willing to look at horses priced appropriately for what I am describing as I certainly know what "Unicorn Horses" are worth! I will of course need to do an in-person trial and will require a pre-purchase exam as well. Please PM Pam Brace Merrick with any prospects! Thank you! Picture of my "Unicorn Horse" for attention! :)

Available for Approved Adoption!
"Katie" who came to us originally from the Amish, after they requested we find her a retirement home. And she found a wonderful new owner that now needs to re-home Katie due to some very unfortunate life circumstances. Here is her description of "Katie"......

"Katie is the best horse I’ve ever known. She’s funny, sweet and yet a typical mare.
She’s always gotten along just fine with all of the other animals in our pastures, but she bonds the best with other horses. I think she believes that our Donkeys are beneath her😆😆😆!

Katie is healthy! She does have Cushing’s but it’s well maintained with Pergoloid. Otherwise no issues. She is active and loves to run around and take long walks with me. She’s just the sweetest, best girl!

Katie is a redhead like me, and about 16h (Draft cross). She is still rideable but its probably best not to have anyone on her more than 200lbs. She comes with a custom fitted saddle and a very stylish heavy blanket.

I have her on Smartpak supplements for senior horses. The vet says her joints look good. Just a tiny bit stiff in her rear right hip…but she IS around 30! No problems getting up off the ground.

She is an easy keeper who loves her grain and free choice hay. She is great for both the vet and farrier."

Please PM Pam Brace Merrick for any additional information or an adoption application. It takes a village to assist at-risk horses! ❤️
