October gives us an opportunity to continue an important conversation: mental health — it matters for everyone, including those who spend their days caring for others. 💚
World Mental Health Day, observed today October 10, reminds us to make mental health a priority, raise awareness, and help reduce the stigma around asking for support.
September also marked Veterinary Mental Health Month, highlighting the unique emotional and mental health challenges that can come with working in veterinary medicine. Long hours, compassion fatigue, difficult decisions, and the loss of beloved patients can take a very real toll.
Behind every veterinarian, veterinary technician, assistant, receptionist, and support team member is a person who deserves care and support, too.
As we reflect on these awareness days and months, let’s remember that mental health isn’t a once-a-year conversation. It’s something we should continue to prioritize every day.
💚 Check in on your people.
💚 Give yourself permission to take a break.
💚 Make space for honest conversations.
💚 Ask for help when you need it — and offer support when someone else does.
Taking care of others starts with making sure we’re taking care of ourselves, too.
This October, let’s keep the conversation going. Mental health matters.
