What a great show weekend! We took 20 rabbits to the show in total (😳) among 3 breeds, since we wanted to take advantage of a show that was only 15 minutes from our house!

We had a couple new families joining us for the show weekend to get some experience and I think/hope they had fun and learned some too!

Most notable parts of the weekend:
⭐️ Ralph got BOB in all 4 Youth Mini Lop shows, special mention by the judges in the first 2 Best in Show competitions, and won Reserve in Show under Judge Daniel Barrett in Youth Show C!

⭐️ Biscuit, Missy, and Teefers all earned a BOSB!

⭐️ Squiggy, Roscoe, Bug, Scrat, Biscuit, Cupid, Missy, and Teefers all earned a BOV or BOSV!

⭐️ Abby’s American Chinchillas each earned BOB or BOSB (they were the only 2 showing in that breed, but they got very nice comments and she had fun with them)!

⭐️ Our rabbits held their own in the Open Specialty classes against some really good breeders!

⭐️ Ben and I both got to be a writer for a judge during one of the shows which is always educational and we got to meet one of the nicest, well-known Mini Lop breeders in the nation and help get his rabbits on the table!

⭐️ Several rabbits that came from our lines placed really well too today! We love seeing that!!

⭐️ 2 of our rabbits are going to great new homes with little girls that will love on them! ❤️

Congratulations to all the winners from the show this weekend! Now we are hoping for some cooler weather to get a few breedings done this week for some fall babies to hopefully be on the show tables early in 2027!

The kids had a pretty good day showing at the Miami County Fair open youth show today!

Ralph (Mini Lop) and Domino (New Zealand) each brought home a BOSB in classes with some strong competition! Abby’s Am Chins brought home a BOB and BOSB but they were the only ones entered. 😂

We got to see family, have some more fair food, and hang out with friends for the day. The only bummer was that Ben wasn’t able to take the royalty tour of the fair because of all the rain today! The fairgrounds have so much mud, we felt bad for them and hope that everyone is able to make it through the rest of the week with less rain so hopefully they can get campers and vehicles out safely at the end of fair! ❤️🍀

We absolutely LOVE when kiddos who get rabbits from us are successful when they show! It’s hard to tell when the rabbits are young when they go to new homes how they will do. We always hope and pray they all do well!

This year so far that I’ve heard from/seen:
⭐️ Union County Fair (Indiana) - Best of Breed Mini Lop
⭐️ Auglaize County Fair - Grand Champion Mini Lop
⭐️ Warren County Fair (our home county fair) - Mini Lops - Best of Breed, Best of Opposite S*x, all 5 Top 5 Senior Bucks, 4 of the Top 5 Senior Does, the top 4 Junior Bucks, and the top 4 Junior Does all from our rabbitry/lines!

If we can continue to put good quality stock in kids’ hands so they do well, hopefully they will stay with rabbits and grow the hobby as they get older, and maybe even pass the love onto future generations!

If you got a rabbit from us, please share with us if you have success (or even if you don’t so we know which pairings work well and which ones don’t!)

Good luck to the rest of the kiddos showing this year! ❤️🍀

We’ve been pretty quiet over here on the farm page recently - fair week was 2 weeks ago, then last week was “recovery” week (which gets harder each year I get older), and this week, the kids are off at 4-H Camp so while it’s “quiet” at home, that means we also have their chores to do and they do A LOT of the animal work around here, along with other chores. We are praying the kids have a fantastic, fun week, and that we have a low-key week at home!

We do have a few Mini Lop babies/juniors still looking to hop to new barns if anyone is interested from our fair juniors/litters, and we’ll have a few New Zealand’s also looking in the next couple of months. All are from our show stock - a couple have amazing pet home personalities though. 🙂 Reach out for more info.

Pictured here is our handsome guy, Ralph (not looking to hop).

Fair prep is not for the weak. This weekend alone involved baking (so.much.bread.), finishing and washing quilts, bee visits, 5 hours of shaving cows (😳), bathing turkeys, stripping turkey and chicken pens, weighing rabbits, moderating tom turkey arguments, weaning baby rabbits, washing buckets and tubs, gathering supplies, moving hay, printing and framing photos, collecting garden produce and eggs, a visit with mom, and more that I think I’ve pushed to the back of my mind. We even had visits with families so that 2 of our rabbits could go to their new show homes this weekend. And we’re only a week away from our fair week check-in! Still much more to do, but the kids are being troopers and doing so much work, and even helping prep other kids’ project animals, and we have an amazing village of support (thank goodness)! If you see me fall asleep mid-day or forget to do something I wouldn’t normally forget though, have a bit of grace and maybe a nudge with coffee and remind me that we’ll get through this! ❤️🍀 💪

We are in full fair-prep mode here at the farm. All the animals are getting even more than normal attention and care while we watch weights and trim toenails and monitor food intake, and most importantly do our best to keep everyone alive in this crazy heat! The babies we have with mamas still are doing well and getting oh so cute. The kids’ market pens are gaining weight and we just hope it’s the right amount. The chickens and turkeys are staying cool in front of fans, and we’ve got one darn broody hen that needs to seriously chill and get out of the nest!

Our hearts have an empty spot in them tonight. 😢 One of our original crew, Miss Minnie passed away today. About 2 weeks ago, we noticed she had a very bloated looking stomach. Since she had dealt with a huge bladder stone previously, we first suspected that and took her to get x-rays done. The vet confirmed that she had a little bit of gas but that the x-ray just looked like she was “full”. No stones, no GI Stasis (but she was concerned that she’d move into GI stasis if she didn’t keep eating/drinking). We got her fluids, motility drugs, pain meds, and worked on keeping her eating & drinking. For anyone dealing with end of life care for animals, you probably know how much you just want them to be at peace and not in pain. Over the past week, she became very thin (except for her big belly) and she didn’t want her hay and grain as much as normal - she was still eating some and she was still using her litter pan (not as much as normal and she took to going under her risers rather than the litter pan directly). She was being very loving and sought attention (which we happily gave) and we moved to comfort care over the last few days and basically let her life end peacefully and with love and treats. RIP sweet girl - you were the best mama and a wonderful part of the Parkers’ Mini Crew! 💔

We’re rolling right into fair season here at our house!! The kids have been hard at work (and making me pull my hair out just a bit) over the last couple of weeks as they are finishing up project books, weighing market animals, grooming, cleaning, etc. getting ready for fair!! Tomorrow and Friday are the dog show and Saturday is Livestock interviews! The next 3 days will be stressful but hopefully fun too! Good luck to all of our friends competing this week and again in a few more weeks! ❤️🍀

The babies are getting to be the age we enjoy so much when their eyes are open and they start exploring more and their little personalities really emerge! ❤️ The 3 oldest babies were so wiggly and did not want to hold still for photos, while the next couple just wanted to pass out and snuggle!
