While laws don’t necessarily stop the heinous things people do to animals, they do give us ways to monitor and prevent animal abuse. As an example, C Hawkins was ordered not to own animals again after heinous neglect of many animals (you may remember the starving horses along 308 and the many dogs he was breeding). When he got two Malinois puppies, PSP got a warrant and we took the dogs. Our judge in that case was amazing and we were granted legal ownership of the dogs. I have little doubt that he will do this again but in this case, because he is ordered not to own animals, we will be able to protect future animals as well.
🚨BREAKING: Rep. Greg Steube Files LEASH Act to Permanently Ban Felony Animal Abusers from Owning Pets
Florida Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) has introduced the LEASH Act, legislation designed to stop convicted felony animal abusers from ever owning or caring for animals again.
The bill would create a nationwide, publicly accessible database of felony animal cruelty offenders to prevent repeat abuse and enhance public safety.
“Animal cruelty is barbaric and too often ignored,” Steube said. “This bill holds offenders accountable and protects animals from repeat abuse.”
Common sense legislation that puts animal welfare first.
