A Big Win

On February 12, 2025 Team Indian Creek headed out to Grovespring, MO for the 2025 NBHA National Breeder’s Invitational Championship and Futurity.
Intricately cover-lined hedgerows, vast fields and birds abound made this an exciting and challenging event.
Ch. Indian Creek Bocephus laid down a showboat of a performance. Together Bo and Garry played off each other. Bo found birds in uncovered territory with Garry elevating this 11-year-old pointer’s talent. Both displayed a sense of humor for an award-winning performance that pressured the competition and earned Bo his 16th Championship title as he claimed the Runner Up spot!
Ch. Kissasmee Grousewoods Tea (Daisy) made up her mind at the breakaway. The title was hers and the goal was clear. Throughout the hour she wanted to show all skills a dog worthy of this title should have...Speed, application, handling ability, bird drive and being the lady that she is she wanted to make sure it was done all while looking beautiful! She started the hour with a gorgeous stop in her tracks back and ended the hour standing high and proud on her 5th find. Upon pickup, her confidence beamed and she knew she had to go get camera ready for her winning shot! She took home the Championship title and so it was a two-parter for Team Indian Creek! Congratulations to owners Ed Marron and the entire Black Meadow Kennels group!
Adding to the momentum of the weekend, Haney’s Big Country (Big) knew he had big shoes to fill following the Indian Creek reign on the Championship division. In the initial series, he expertly hunted his way through the golden blades of bird cover as if there was a clear pathway to the Futurity crown. Big made the callbacks along with some very fierce canine competitors including a few of his Indian Creek teammates. During the hour his prowess for bird finding shone through proving he was Top of the Class. Haney’s Big Country was named the winner of 2025 NBHA Futurity! We were certainly proud of this top derby putting the final touch on a BIG winning weekend!

On January 17, 2025 the Indian Creek team came out in full force for The 50th Anniversary NBHA Arkansas State Classic held in Booneville, Arkansas.
It was a clean sweep for Team Indian Creek.
Indian Creek Sprout displayed her edge seeking style. An exciting but connected move at finish earned her the third place spot. Second was Indian Creek Spur who didn’t raise an eyebrow to the flight of multiple bird finds. His persistent nature made the course seem all too easy for this up and coming superstar. Mohawk Mill Trail Warrior claimed the first spot on the podium. Outsmarting the birds on some tricky relocations, his talent and experience shined through as he combed the course with desire and style. Hiding in plain sight, he ended the hour with an expertly handled covey find to top off his five find performance proving he was the complete package for a Classic winner!
Following the lead of our veteran shooting dog team, our derbies, Hog Hill FAFO and Haney’s Big Country already had their minds made up at the starting line that they were going to attempt to outdo the other. “Big” ran a race that matched his name, paired with perfect bird work earning him the second place spot in the Open Derby Classic.
Despite his kennel mate’s namesake, Hog Hill FAFO hunted at extreme lengths in race and talent scoring a covey at finish which earned him first place honors. Congratulations to all owners of the weekend Tim Cavanaugh and Black Meadow Kennels! As always thank you to the West Ark field trial club, trial chairman and judges. Your hospitality made it a “classic” Arkansas event!

“Three digits” 100!

Our third spotlight of the night is one that was achieved in 2024, but the work and dedication to make it a reality began many years (even decades) prior. It was a goal we set a few years ago while questioning its attainability. But… on March 9, 2024 at the NBHA Central States Regional Championship in Booneville AR we fulfilled our goal with Garry winning his 99th & 100th Championship title!
It was only fitting in this full circle moment that Ch Pure Confidence (a decorated veteran) won the Championship with newly crowned RU Champion Indian Creek Spur taking the Runner Up spot. Both wins reminding us of all it took to achieve this success, making this a treasured token in our countdown.

Twice is Nice!

Our second highlight of the countdown brings us to Argyle, Wisconsin for the 2024 NBHA Northern Regional Championship, which has made its home here for the past few years at the beginning of April. This was our last Championship of the season creating cause for celebration on a tour well traveled! It was clear Ch Indian Creek Bocephus had a goal in mind as he zeroed in on the course from the breakaway. His pattern paralleled the rolling lines of the course with immense intensity on game scoring him RU Champion!
Newly acquired Ch Mohawk Mill Trail Warrior “Buddy” is a dog that will make you smile! He gave a performance full of effortless ease and bird finding mastery staking his claim as the Championship title and being crowned King of the North!
Over the years of field trialing, there are certain “snap shots” that come to mind, pieces a dog’s performances that paint themselves in my memory because they are the moments that make me the happiest. The greatest photos I have of field trailing aren’t the ones that are taken and posted but the ones that aren’t. Buddy’s take on new territory and Bo’s powerful finish as Garry greeted him at the end of the hour are two images I’ll never forget!

As the clock counts down to 2025, join us as we share some of our favorite moments of 2024 to ring in the New Year!

First up:

Writing his own chapter in 2024, Ch Pure Confidence (Tango) showed up in style. Coming in strong for our first Championship of the year at the NBHA Southern Championship at AG preserve in Glenwood, GA on January 27th. His bird finding charge cut through the morning fog taking home this exciting Championship win!
His next endeavor was the 2024 NBHA National Open Breeder’s Invitational Championship in February at Grovesprings, MO where his signature composure and edge seeking performance won him this prestigious title!
It was on March 9, 2024 at the NBHA Central Regional Championship in Booneville, AR where Tango reminded us of how much he truly loves what he does. He navigated the course, swept through the country with purpose and precision as if signing his name on the field. This earned him his 17th Championship title!
The culmination of these wins propelled National Ch Pure Confidence to be honored once again as the 2024 NBHA Purina National Open Shooting Dog of the Year, making it his 4th National Dog of the Year award in a row!!
Tango has had many achievements, but much of his greatness comes from his gracious owners having been a part of Team Indian Creek always cheering him on! Congratulations to Black Meadow Kennels (Ed Marron, John Bleeker, John Avanzato, and David DeVries) on another spectacular ride!

On April 1, 2023 our team headed up to Argyle, WI for the NBHA Northern Regional Championship. The forecast of ice and snow had us a bit hesitant to make the journey, but based on their previous performances, our canine team was begging us for one more Championship opportunity before the trial season was through.
The course was vast and open with rolling hills making for different vantage points from any portion of the course. The first day’s running was unusually hot and sticky with dogs stopping to bite into what was left of the icy melting snow from the week prior.
In true Midwest fashion a blustering storm blew in for the second day’s running with a 40 degrees temperature drop!!
After being on the road for 9 weeks, both Garry and I needed to dig in to complete this final Championship task…. Pure Confidence gave us that motivation and with the same goal in mind staked his claim on the Championship title. This edge-seeking pointer crusaded through the course giving us a bird saturated performance, ending on a high note with a long but celebratory journey home for team Indian Creek! This was the 14th Championship title for Pure Confidence- Congratulations to owners Black Meadow Kennels!
Thanks to judges Frank and Mike Vicari, as well as Greg Blair, John and Deb Dlobik and the entire Twelve O’Clock field trial club for putting on a great event!

Looking back on a highlight of 2023 as we welcome in the New Year….

On March 23, 2023 our travels brought us to Whetstone Wildlife management area in Williamsburg, MO for the NBHA Midwestern Championship. With trial chairmen Tim Penn, Kevin Western and judges Danny Draffen and Craig Hiatt in full attention it was destined to be an honorable event!

Star-studded performances graced the field with many multiple Champions and National Champions in the lineup. This galaxy of decorated competitors, deep muddy grounds, impenetrable cornfield cover and sharp frigid conditions did not intimidate Indian Creek Sprout from dusting the field of veterans! Her enthusiastic race matched her five prideful finds and with a twinkle in her eye she captured her first Championship title at just 3 years old!

An upcoming star herself, Sprout had a sparkle that Garry recognized very early in her career. Frequenting Championships (but not many of the companion stakes) we uncharacteristically decided to compete with her as a puppy while on our 2021 National campaign. She took this decision as a compliment ending her 2021 season as NBHA Open Puppy of the Year.
2022 was another shining moment for Sprout as she was crowned NBHA Open Derby of the Year! Topping off the trifecta, she aligned herself with the gold standard becoming a Champion in her first year competing as an Open Shooting Dog, signifying the sky is the limit!

Congratulations to all competitors! Thank you to all who made this a successful event and to all who work so hard throughout the year to make the world of field trials go round. Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy 2024!

Enjoy this fun Christmas read, while you ring in the holiday!

On March 10, 2023 the NBHA held the National Free for All Championship in Booneville, AR. After just coming off of the National Championship the week prior, the circuit tested our strengths with yet another two series event.

The course had to be modified due to flooding and required different demands of the dogs. The new design made extreme handling a requisite due to the overlap of tracks. The composure of many, often double digit finds, needed to be the top skill for all canine competitors if they were going to claim their place in the callbacks with the ultimate goal being the capture of the National crown.
With an encouraging track record, Pure Confidence (Tango) has had his sights set on this title for some time. Climbing the National Free for All ladder, his journey to the top began in 2019 when he made the callbacks but was edged out by fellow kennel mate Nat Ch Indian Creek Bocephus. A cancelled 2020 National Free for All Championship due to the pandemic made him only more eager to show himself in 2021 when he claimed the Runner Up title to Joe Link’s multiple Champion Erin’s Deja Vu in Inola, Oklahoma.

2022 proved to be a year with “National” in front of many titles as Pure Confidence was named NBHA National Champion and NBHA National Free for All Champion which secured his spot as 2022 National Open Shooting Dog of the Year for a second year in a row!
Determined to defend his title, he entered the 2023 National Free for All Championship with conviction. Familiar territory yet reconfigured grounds proved not to be a hindrance for this ultra consistent contender as he stepped into first place on the podium once again!
Congratulations to owners Black Meadow Kennels! Thank you to the judges Joyce Taylor and Steve Messick, NBHA President
Ken Sauer, Glenn Cumbie and the West Ark Field Trial Club for all their hard word and preparation for another class event!
