BEARDED DRAGONS HAVE ACRODONT DENTITION:

This means some of their teeth are directly fused to the jaws.

They also ✨️do not✨️ have the enzymes to break down sugars like tropical or fruit-eating reptiles.

Feeding sugary foods can lead to tooth and even jaw decay in bearded dragons.

Poor Tuna tested positive for an unidentified species of protozoa, so our vet got him started on medication. He was fed normally that evening, and threw up the next day.

There was another regurgitation this morning that appeared to have a piece of paper towel in it, which may have been accidentally ingested when he shed recently.

Just to be on the safe side, the regurgitation from this morning was collected and will be sent off for testing.

He also had samples collected and sent out Tuesday, so hopefully we'll have results soon and we can sort out exactly what's going on with this little man 🤞

Firm, friendly reminder: As reptile/pet owners, we need to stay on top of health issues 🙏

Leaving wounds or infections alone without veterinary care can be detrimental to the health of your animal friend.

Pickles, one of our permanent special needs residents, lost one of his eyes, some of his vision in the other, and one of his hemipenes from serious deficiency-related infections.

Please don't wait until the damage is irreversible 💚

We got to help this handsome man last year when he was surrendered to the clinic where I work. Our awesome vets patched him up, then we handed him to The Kentuckiana Scaletuary where he was cared for and rehabilitated. Threeodore healed up beautifully, and we were given the honor of releasing him back home!

We've got a very special post to share soon 💚

This little guy was picked up for transport to Feral Auntie’s Reptile Rescue 🙏

He's around a year old, but is very undersized for his age. He also has some pretty significant deformation to his tail from MBD.

Feral Auntie's will make sure he gets the care he needs, and hopefully with time he'll catch up a bit in size.

I also got to meet Feral's beautiful iguana Nova, who was an ✨️absolute delight✨️

✨️LLRR Inc is NOT certified to work with wildlife!✨️

If you've found an injured wild animal in Kentucky but don't know where to get help, you can use the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife's directory to find certified rehabilitators in your area.

LLRR Inc CAN help transport injured reptiles to licensed rehabbers, but we cannot legally work with them.

It's been a ✨️hot minute✨️ since we've shared anything on big boi Porkchop.

Porkchop came in last July with bloody eyes, infections, and he was considerably overweight.

He also developed a weird skin rash after being introduced to substrate when his initial quarantine period ended.

He WOULD NOT eat on his own for us, and has been syringe-fed formulas and crushed insects since last year, despite trying everything we could possibly think of; trying different feeders, using different supplement brands, feeding at night, leaving insects overnight, etc, etc, etc 🫠

We could not in good conscience list him for adoption until this issue was sorted out.

But just the other night, Porkchop FINALLY, ENTHUSIASTICALLY took insects!!

This is a huge step in his progress. Sometimes you really have to be patient and let these guys do things on their own time.

Porkchop will be put back on the adoption list, but will be labeled as "Under Observation" until we know for certain his appetite is here to stay 🙏

Interesting developments in LED UVB lighting from Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. 👀

Herpetoculture/lighting expert Dr. Frances Baines was involved in a pilot study for Zoo Med's Gen 2 UVB LED product.

LED UVB devices all have the same consistent problem with not providing important UVA in the correct wavelengths for vitamin D production and regulation. This can lead to hypervitaminosis D and photo-keratoconjunctivitis.

The Zoo Med Gen 2 LED UVB product seems to be inching closer towards fixing this issue.

It is not without its flaws, and we will wait until more studies are released on their safety and efficiency, but this does seem to be a step in the right direction for this technology!
