CW: ANIMAL NEGLECT, DECEASED ANIMALS

The investigation for the hoarding case is still being pieced together, but we're allowed to share a bit of what our network of rescues walked into.

We did not have the capacity to take any animals from the site, so I was just there to help move them into containers, but the surviving individuals are getting the love, care and treatment they desperately needed with the other awesome rescues involved.

Hey there fiends and friends 🙏

Leopard gecko rescue Panini is booked for an opthalmic procedure next week with Dr. Brett Moore at The Eye Vets.

Panini is a little gentleman who was shipped to us all the way from New York last year. He was presenting with some severe corneal edema from an unknown cause. We're not sure if this was from a bad infection, burns from improper heating or UVB lighting, or some other damage.

We've pretty much exhausted all other forms of treatment for him, and none seem to have worked.

The corneal mesh has been distended for so long that it seems unable to repair itself.

Our final attempt will be to try either a canthoplasty or blepharoplasty surgery. This would involve creating permanent sutures in the corners of his eyes to tighten the lids and lend his corneas more support.

The hope is that this will give his corneas a better environment to heal and ultimately save his vision.

Unfortunately there are no guarantees, and I understand for some this may seem unreasonable. This is not an inexpensive procedure, and I understand many may believe it's not worth it for such a small animal.

My mission with LLRR Inc has always been to provide the best care possible for the animals we take in. If there's a chance an animal's life can be improved, I'll take it.

Reptiles use body language to communicate their needs and moods. Tegu Delphine lets us know when she's done eating by turning away from her food, and cleaning her face on her substrate!

The adoptable gecko enclosure upgrades are almost complete 🙏 The final tower on the right is budgeted into next year's supply orders.

There are three separate areas in our operation; a quarantine room, and two rooms for adoptables and personal pets.

Because my partner and I have day jobs, and LLRR Inc is home-based, visits must be scheduled, but all three areas are open so guests can see how LLRR Inc operates.

We want adopters and the community to have confidence that our animals are well taken care of. Followers and guests are always welcome to see setups and ask questions!

Panini was seen last week for a follow-up on his eyes. We're going to discuss a canthoplasty procedure to try and help give Panini's eyes more support.

This procedure involves creating little wounds on the upper and lower lids on one corner, and suturing the wounds together to create a smaller opening. The hope is that this would help put a bit of pressure on the corneas and give them the support they need to heal.

Panini has been with us for over a year, and his condition has been a confusing and difficult one to navigate. We were not given much information about his history; we don't know if his eye condition is a result of severe infection or UV burns, or something else entirely. But we'll do everything we can to try and make Panini's life more comfortable!

I greatly appreciate the knowledge and expertise of the ophthalmologists who have been seeing this sweet boy at The Eye Vets. We are still running a "lazy" fundraiser through the PayPal Giving Fund, so if you're able to contribute to our cause it would really go a long way!

We can't share much more on this case at this time. This was the first hoarding situation I've helped on, and it was traumatizing to say the least.

It was overwhelming and heartbreaking to see such a horrifying level of neglect.

We unfortunately did not have room at our location for intakes, but the rescue community really came through on this. I helped box some of the animals into transport containers, and everyone else moved mountains to get the reptiles to safety and care.
