✨ Still searching for his perfect home... meet Hakeem. ✨

Every once in a while, we have a cat whose continued wait for a home genuinely surprises us.

Hakeem is one of those cats.

Hakeem came to Pet Angel last year as an emergency placement when his owner needed to seek mental health treatment and wanted to ensure he stayed safe during that time. Suddenly going from being the only pet in a home to living in rescue surrounded by unfamiliar cats, people, and constant activity was incredibly overwhelming for him.

And honestly? We can't blame him.

When Hakeem first arrived, he was scared, withdrawn, and unsure of the world around him. But with time, patience, and consistency, he slowly began to trust again—and now that he feels safe, his sweet personality has truly blossomed.

Today, Hakeem is affectionate, playful, and so ready for a family of his own.

He absolutely loves people. He enjoys playing with toys, birdwatching from the window, lounging in cozy beds, and spending time with the humans he loves. At night, he'll happily curl up in bed with his person and sleep right alongside them. During the day, he's content to nap, relax, and wait for his favorite people to come home.

He's the kind of cat who becomes a true companion.

So why is he still here?

The simple answer is that Hakeem wants to be your one and only pet.

He doesn't enjoy sharing his home with other cats or dogs and would much rather have all of the attention for himself. The good news? He won't get lonely being an only pet—he actually prefers it that way! Hakeem thrives when he can focus all of his love and attention on his people without the stress of other animals around.

He would be a wonderful fit for:
❤️ An empty nest couple
❤️ A single person looking for a devoted companion
❤️ A couple who wants one spoiled fur baby
❤️ An older adult looking for a loving friend
❤️ A family with respectful teenage children

Hakeem is affectionate and playful without being chaotic or destructive. He truly just wants a calm, predictable home where he can relax, feel secure, and be someone's beloved companion again.

What breaks our hearts is knowing that somewhere out there is a person who would absolutely adore Hakeem—but they may not have seen him yet.

📢 That's where you come in. Please share Hakeem's post.

Every adoption starts with someone seeing a photo, reading a story, or having a friend share a post. The person meant for Hakeem may not follow our page. They may not even know they're looking for a cat yet.

Your share could be the missing link that puts Hakeem's face in front of his future family.

Your share might be all it takes to finally get this sweet boy out of rescue and into a home of his own. ❤️

Hakeem is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and FIV/FELV negative. We also have his full veterinary history from kittenhood onward.

If you think you might be the home Hakeem has been waiting for, please apply to adopt through:

One of the most common reasons cats are surrendered to shelters is because the cat is not using the litter box.
For the owner, rehoming the cat is their last solution, but it feels like the only option they can take.
However, for your cat, this isn't solving the issue. They still aren't using the litter box, its just now the rescue's problem to solve.
Sure, it's resolving the issue for the humans, but ultimately, rehoming your cat because they stopped using the litter box not only doesn't help your cat start using the litter box again, but then they are in a shelter, depressed because they miss you, and have more issues on hand because now they've been abandon by their owner.
Trust me, I know that your cat not using the litter box is extremely upsetting.
Rehoming them isn't the solution.
But I do have lots of recommendations for you on how to find the solution!

We have a ton of 100% free guides on our website for cat owners who are experiencing different issues with their pets, and one of our most popular guides is what to do when your cat is going outside the litterbox! Pet Angel doesn't get anything from you for using this guide. It is 100% free (no pay wall,) and no download is required. Pet Angel does NOT get paid for your visit to our website, and we aren't looking for anything from you to use this guide. We genuinely want to help you and your cats relationship, and help you and your cat both stay happy once your newborn joins your home! We hope it helps you!

You can find our free litter box guide by visiting: https://petangeladoption.com/cat-owner-guides

If you try the recommendations on our guide and still aren't figuring out whats going on with your cat, we have several cat behaviorists who would love to work with you and your cat to help solve the issue! You can find our cat behaviorist partners on our website at: https://petangeladoption.com/cat-owner-guides

You didn't give up on your child when they were potty training. Please don't give up on your cat.

🚨 LOST CAT? DON’T PANIC — ACT FAST! 🐱

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is:
“My indoor cat would never run away.”

But scared indoor cats often panic when they accidentally get outside — and when they do, their behavior is VERY different than an outdoor cat’s behavior. Most indoor cats do not immediately travel far away. Instead, they usually hide silently nearby because they are terrified.

If your cat escapes, here are some important first steps:

🔍 Search CLOSE to home first
Check under porches, decks, bushes, sheds, cars, wood piles, garages, and anywhere small and quiet. Many cats are found within a few houses of where they escaped.

🌙 Search late at night or early morning
Cats are more likely to come out when it’s quiet. Bring a flashlight — their eyes may reflect back at you.

🍽 Put familiar scents outside
Place their bed, favorite blanket, toys, or used litter box outside near your home to help guide them back.

📱 Post publicly on Facebook
Include:
✔ Clear full-body photos
✔ Exact location last seen
✔ Your contact information
✔ Any identifying features
✔ Whether they are microchipped or wearing a collar

Share your post in local lost pet groups, community pages, rescues, shelters, and vet offices.

☎ Call local vets, shelters & animal control
Even if your cat is microchipped, you still need to actively report them missing.

🚫 Don’t assume someone “stole” them immediately
Most missing indoor cats are hiding silently nearby and are too scared to respond right away.

💛 Most importantly: DON’T GIVE UP.
We have seen cats return home after days, weeks, and even months because their owners kept searching and posting consistently.

We’ve attached a couple helpful graphics with additional tips and information on creating effective lost pet posts. Save them now — hopefully you’ll never need them, but they could help save a life someday. 🐾

💛 Meet Bert & Ernie 💛

Two brothers. Two enlarged hearts. Two HCM diagnoses. And somehow… two of the happiest kittens you will ever meet.

In May of 2025, Bert, Ernie, their mother Sesame, and their siblings were abandoned outside Pet Angel on the hottest day of the year. Their tiny family was found stuffed into cages and sealed containers without even proper airflow. Thankfully, volunteers arrived in time to save them.

Since then, these boys have grown into playful, goofy, affectionate kittens who absolutely refuse to let their diagnosis define them.

🐾 Bert is long-legged, sleek, and endlessly charming. He loves pom pom balls, shoelaces, cat hammocks, and clinging to your shoulder like a little parrot. He sleeps belly-up in hammocks and wants to be involved in everything you’re doing.

🏃 Ernie is the self-appointed king of the cat wheel. If you visit Pet Angel, you’ll probably hear him before you see him:
Step-MEOW-Step-MEOW-Step-MEOW.
He runs while yelling at the top of his lungs and even naps on the wheel so nobody else can use it. He loves laps, hoodie strings, wrestling with his roommates, and being the center of attention.

After unexpectedly losing one of their brothers last year, Pet Angel pursued extensive cardiac testing on the remaining kittens and their mother. Bert and Ernie were both diagnosed with HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), a heart condition that will require lifelong monitoring and eventually medication as they get older.

And honestly? That scares people.

But here’s the thing:
These boys do not know they are “special needs.” They wake up every day excited about toys, snacks, wrestling matches, cat wheels, attention, and love. They are silly. They are joyful. They are affectionate. They are SO unbelievably alive.

Any cat can develop a medical condition unexpectedly. Bert & Ernie simply come with the advantage of already knowing what needs to be monitored so their future family can stay proactive and informed.

While they can be adopted separately, we would absolutely LOVE to see these biological brothers adopted together. They both need homes with other cats, share the same medical condition, and have grown up side by side through everything life has thrown at them.

We know adopting special needs cats can feel intimidating. But we also know that somewhere out there is a family willing to look past the words “heart condition” and see what we see:
Two kittens with enormous hearts and so much love left to give. 💛

☀️ Flea & Tick Season Is Here — And Yes, Even Indoor Cats Need Prevention!

With the warmer weather finally arriving in Michigan, we wanted to give an important reminder about flea and tick prevention for your pets — including indoor-only cats!

Every year we hear:
“My cat never goes outside, so they don’t need flea or tick prevention.”

Unfortunately, fleas and ticks do not care whether your cat lives indoors or outdoors. Fleas can hitch a ride inside on your clothing, shoes, dogs, visitors, or even through screens and doorways. Ticks can also be carried inside accidentally and they are EXTREMELY bad this year. Once fleas enter a home, they reproduce FAST and can quickly turn into a full infestation that is stressful, expensive, and frustrating to eliminate.

This year especially, we are already seeing a heavy flea and tick season early on.

We also want to stress something VERY important:
🚫 Please avoid flea collars and Hartz brand flea/tick products.

Many over-the-counter flea collars and certain flea/tick products — especially Hartz products — have been associated with severe reactions, neurological issues, burns, seizures, and even death in pets. We unfortunately see the aftermath of unsafe flea products far too often in rescue.

The safest and most effective flea/tick preventatives are veterinarian-recommended products prescribed specifically for your pet. Your veterinarian can help you choose a prevention option based on your cat’s age, weight, health history, and lifestyle.

Prevention is ALWAYS easier (and cheaper) than treating an infestation after it starts.

Protect your pets, your home, and your sanity this summer by keeping everyone on safe, vet-approved prevention!

Hello, my name is Grover! I am an adult cat with quite the backstory who is looking for the purrfect home to make my happily ever after and care for me all the rest of my days! Despite having a medically enlarged heart, I am still one of the best cats you’ll ever meet. In fact, don’t tell the other cats, but I became one of Pet Angel’s Director’s favorite cats at the rescue because she says I’m just THAT great. She can’t adopt any more kitties, so I’m on the hunt to find a family that will love me just as much as Abby does (and maybe even send her updates and pictures after I’m adopted!).

Back in May of 2025, on the first 80 degree day in Frankenmuth, somebody dumped my mommy, me, and my 5 brothers outside Pet Angel. Our mommy cat was left inside a tiny cage, and next to the cage they left a fully closed Rubbermaid tote with all 6 of us babies trapped inside — without air holes. Thankfully, the volunteers found us in time and brought us to safety. Pet Angel named our mommy Sesame, and all of us kittens were named after Sesame Street characters. I’m Grover, and my brothers were Elmo, Rocco, Bert, Ernie, and Snuffy.

Since then, I’ve grown into a BIG personality in a tuxedo cat body. I am seriously one of the funniest, sweetest, most outgoing cats you will ever meet. I adore attention and absolutely crave human interaction. I love to be held like a baby, I purr constantly, and I will follow you around the house begging for attention and affection. I am extremely playful, adventurous, curious, and social. I love toys — especially pom pom balls and spring toys — and I fully expect my future family to spoil me with them!

Now, there is one thing about me you should know… I am not your average cat. I am an ALPHA cat through and through. I absolutely need a home with other cats because I thrive having feline companions and playmates, but the other cats in the home need to be more submissive and easygoing. I like to be the boss, and I will absolutely take charge of the household dynamics. Confident or dominant cats likely would not be a good fit for me.

I have not officially been tested one-on-one with dogs, but based on my bold personality, Pet Angel believes I would likely do just fine with the RIGHT dog. However, because I’m such a confident alpha cat, I need a dog with a very low prey drive who would never hurt a cat — even if I decide to give them a little attitude or put them in their place. Slow introductions would still be important, of course!

I also need a home with older children only. While I absolutely love attention and affection, I have a very unique habit… I SCALE PEOPLE. Seriously. If I want to be in your arms or on your shoulders, I will climb your legs, torso, or even your back to get there. Because of this, I would not do well in a home with babies, toddlers, or very young children who could become frightened or accidentally hurt by my climbing antics. Older kids or teenagers who understand cats and can safely handle my very enthusiastic affection would be ideal for me!

I do also have a medical condition that my future family needs to understand. In July of 2025, one of my brothers, Snuffy, suddenly passed away. After additional testing and heart ultrasounds, Pet Angel learned that my mommy Sesame and all of her biological kittens had enlarged hearts. Since then, 3 of my biological brothers have gone on to develop HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), which means I am considered at high risk for developing HCM in the future as well.

At this time, I do NOT currently have HCM, but I do have an enlarged heart and will need lifelong monitoring. My future family will need to commit to routine veterinary care and heart checkups every 6 months to monitor my condition and make sure my heart continues functioning properly. If changes are ever detected, additional ultrasounds or medication may become necessary in the future. Right now, though, I do not require medication — just careful monitoring and a family willing to stay proactive about my health.

Please don’t let my enlarged heart scare you away. The truth is, many cats can have hidden heart conditions that are never discovered until it’s too late. Pet Angel chose to do extensive testing before placing me up for adoption so my future family would fully understand my needs and be prepared to give me the best care possible. My heart may be enlarged, but that just means I have even more love to give.

I am fixed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and negative for FIV/FELV. I am looking for a strictly indoor-only home within the state of Michigan. Because of my heart condition, I am not a cat who should travel unnecessarily outside of veterinary care.

What I really need is someone who understands that I’m a little extra in every possible way — extra affectionate, extra outgoing, extra dramatic, extra playful, and extra lovable. I promise that if you give me a chance, I will become one of the most unforgettable cats you will ever meet.

I am located at Pet Angel Adoption in Frankenmuth, Michigan. If you think we may be the purrfect match, please submit an application online at https://petangeladoption.com/adopt-a-cat

📣 Adoption Update: Shine, Ray & Sesame 💛

Sometimes in rescue, cats decide for themselves who their family is — and that’s exactly what happened here.

Many of you have followed the journey of Ray & Shine, the adorable kitten duo who grew up together after both arriving at Pet Angel as tiny babies in need of companionship. While the two absolutely still love each other and remain friends, as they’ve grown older we’ve noticed a shift in their bonds within the free roam room.

Over the past several months, Sesame and Shine have become extremely attached to each other. Sesame is our former mama cat with the enlarged heart who helped raise her kittens this past year. The two are constantly together: grooming one another, sleeping curled up side by side with their paws wrapped around one another, seeking each other out during the day, and choosing each other’s company over the other cats in the room. While Ray happily socializes with everyone, Shine and Sesame have clearly chosen each other as their comfort cat and best friend.

Because of this, we have made the decision to officially move forward with:
✨ Shine & Sesame as a bonded pair
✨ Ray available as an individual young cat looking for a home with other cats

This decision was not made lightly, but rather by carefully observing their relationships, comfort levels, and emotional attachments over time. Our goal is always to place cats in the homes where they will thrive the most emotionally and socially long term.

Ray is still the same happy, affectionate, social little guy everyone loves — he simply no longer relies on Shine specifically for comfort or confidence the way Shine and Sesame now rely on each other. He would likely thrive with another playful cat in his future home, but no longer needs to be adopted with a specific companion.

Meanwhile, separating Shine and Sesame at this point would truly be separating a bonded pair.

Rescue relationships evolve as cats grow, and sometimes the cats write their own stories better than we ever could. 💛

✨ Still searching for his perfect quiet home… meet Hakeem. ✨

We can’t blame him.

When Hakeem first arrived, he was scared, withdrawn, and unsure of the world around him. But with time, patience, and consistency, he slowly began to trust again — and now that he feels safe, his sweet personality has truly blossomed.

Hakeem absolutely LOVES attention from people he trusts. He enjoys lounging in fluffy cat beds, bird watching from the window, curling up nearby while you watch TV, and soaking up peaceful companionship. He’s also deeply attached to a stuffed cow from his former home that he still cuddles with every day. 🐄 (You can spot his beloved cow sitting on top of his hammock in the photos!)

This handsome guy is also a total goofball when it comes to toys — especially Yeowww catnip toys. He tosses them around, plays happily by himself, and goes absolutely wild for wet food and Churu treats.

Hakeem is affectionate and playful without being chaotic or destructive. What he truly wants is a calm, predictable home where he can finally relax and just be someone’s beloved companion again.

Because rescue life has been stressful for him, Hakeem is looking for a strictly indoor-only home where he can be the one-and-only pet. No cats, no dogs — just a peaceful environment and people to love him. He would also do well with calm children over 12 years old.

Now that he’s fully comfortable and trusting again, Hakeem is more than ready to leave rescue life behind and finally find the forever home he deserves. ❤️

Hakeem is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and FIV/FELV negative. We also have his full veterinary history from kittenhood onward.

If you think you might be the quiet home Hakeem has been waiting for, please apply to adopt through: https://petangeladoption.com/adopt-a-cat

A HUGE thank you to Adrienne Zinke!!

Back in March, Adrienne reached out to Pet Angel Adoption & Rescue about completing her Early College Program community service project with us — and we were absolutely honored to say yes!

Adrienne’s family adopted two cats from our rescue back in 2021, so it meant even more to us that a former adopter and Pet Angel “alumni family” chose to give back to the very place their cats came from.

For her project, Adrienne organized a cat supplies drive at Oxford High School, where she placed a donation box for about a month and personally collected all of the items herself. She then delivered everything directly to the rescue and even got to meet the cats and kittens she was helping!

And WOW — Oxford truly showed up for these cats! 💚

Adrienne brought in a HUGE donation, including the largest bag of Temptations cat treats we have EVER seen 😻 along with tons of paper towels, laundry detergent, and dish soap — everyday essentials that we use constantly but are not always donated, making them incredibly appreciated.

Adrienne also presented her project at the high school, helping spread awareness about rescue work and the needs of shelter animals.

We are beyond grateful for Adrienne’s kindness, leadership, and heart for animals, and so thankful to everyone who donated to her drive. Because of you, we are fully stocked on cleaning supplies and cat treats heading into the summer!

From all of us at Pet Angel — thank you, Adrienne. What a beautiful heart you have, and what a difference you’ve made for our cats and kittens. 💚
