Congratulations to our very own K9 Murph and K9 Ofc. Lewis. Their dedication to training, the safety of fellow officers and the community led to a very dangerous situation for all of those involved to be resolved in the best possible outcome. Congratulations to our K9 team and all of the other officers who received awards for their service to the community.

Officer A. Lewis and K9 Murph (Distinguished Service Award), Officer K. Pratt (Meritorious Service Award), and Officer B. Doyle (Chiefs Unit Award) received awards for their role in an incident that involved a man firing a handgun in a residential neighborhood and then barricading themselves in a vehicle. Their actions ensured the successful apprehension of the male.

Officer Macleod received a Police Commendation Award for his actions when responding to a vehicle that had crashed into a reservoir and become partially submerged. His selfless actions ensured that the front passenger was able to escape, and upon realizing that the rear passenger was trapped, he entered the vehicle and stayed with them to ensure they had access to air while they were rescued.

Officer C. Macleod received a second Police Commendation Award for his role in a foot chase that resulted in the apprehension of a man with a gun in his waistband.

Officer C. McDonald received a Letter of Merit for his role investigating a motor vehicle accident where a car had become partially submerged in a reservoir, resulting in an arrest for OUI.

Officer Higgins received the Military Service Award.

Receiving the Service Award is Lt. H. Wareham, who completed 30 years of service.

Excellent job by all! Keep up the great work!

Thanks to 29 Realty Group for the opportunity to train in a vacant residential home today. This type of training is crucial for us to prepare our handlers and K9s for real life scenarios. As always, we appreciate the local businesses and residents for their continued support in ensuring our K9s and handlers can continue to excel in serving the city of Framingham.

The FPD K-9 unit and K'9s Isco, Murph and Bergy had the honor to meet their new favorite hero PJ today. PJ loves police patches, stickers, coins and K9s and has his own police car and motorcycle. We were able to help him with his collection and hooked him up with some patches and gear. Any fellow departments out there please send some patches and stickers as PJ is working on his collection. It was great to meet you PJ!

We're thankful for the great support from the department, other agencies within the city, Massachusetts Vest-A-Dog, Northeast Classic: Vic Yerardi Memorial Car Show and others who have donated their time and efforts to ensuring we are training to top levels at all time.

This morning the Framingham Police Department K9 Unit officially opened its K9 Agility Training Course. This open air facility was made possible by DPW Carpenters Dan Greenwood and Jake Gogan, Mass Vest-a-Dog, Ashland Lumber, and cooperation between the FPD and DPW.

With this new facility in place our K9 Handlers—as well as other K9 Handlers in the area—will be able to continue to put their police K9s through rigorous training and exercise that will ensure they can continue to operate at the highest levels and are ready to take on any task put before them. Thank you to all involved who made this site a reality!

Today our dual purpose patrol dogs, K9 Bergy and K9 Ofc. Stephen Buma, K9 Murph and K9 Ofc. Andrew Lewis and K9 Isco and K9 Ofc. Matt Mangano nationally certified with North American Police Working Dog Association (NAPWDA). The canines and handlers were tested in basic obedience, article searches, tracking, building searches, area searches and aggression control. Our handlers certify through NAPWDA annually but are consistently working on each of these areas daily to ensure their dogs are always ready to perform on the street.

And a Congrats to our Narc K9 team who is also constantly training and working hard to maintain their certifications and success on the street

Not one to be left out, K9 Isco and his handler, Officer Matt Mangano, have some good news of their own to share!

Last week, K9 Isco and Officer Matt Mangano passed their 2025 United States Police Canine Narcotics Certification! Similar to his FPD counterparts in their ATF certification, Isco was put through a challenging course that ensures he and his handler are experts in their field.

The USPCA’s ever evolving evaluation system ensures handlers and their canines are not only capable, but utilize best practices in the field of narcotics detection. Using a points system, handlers are able to learn where they can improve their craft and better serve their communities.

Congrats to our EOD K9 teams who are constantly training and working hard to maintain their certifications and success on the street

The FPD is proud to report that our three Explosive Ordinance Detection K9s, Luca, Murph, and Bergy, have all passed their 2025 ATF National Odor Recognition Test and have received their recertifications!

The National Odor Recognition Test puts K9s and their handlers through a rigorous assessment that showcases their odor detection and teamwork skills. K9 teams are expected to actively search out and identify a variety of explosive compounds, ignitable liquids, and gun powder related residue. Furthermore, this certification program gives an opportunity to handlers from across the region to come together to learn new techniques and best practices from the top teams and experts in the field of odor recognition.
