After much thought and reflection, we have made the bittersweet decision to close the chapter on The Canine Classroom. Running a nonprofit is a true labor of love, but in this season of our lives, our hearts are calling us to focus fully on our children and careers.

Looking back, our hearts are so full. We have loved every minute of visiting Trumbull County schools, teaching children about responsible pet ownership in the hope that they grow up to be the generation that puts an end to abuse and neglect. We are immensely proud of the dogs we helped find loving homes for, the three local shelters we’ve supported, and the pets we’ve been able to help spay and neuter.

As we wind down, any remaining funds will be donated directly to the AWL and to help sponsor a few final spay and neuter surgeries. While The Canine Classroom is closing its doors, our passion for animals isn't going anywhere. We look forward to continuing our advocacy by volunteering at local shelters whenever time and opportunity allow.

Thank you all for supporting us, cheering us on, and sharing this journey with us. 🐾❤️

A heartfelt thank you to Laura, Christina and their team at The Legacy Assisted Living for your $500 donation to The Canine Classroom! 💜 🫶 Last year, we donated $700 worth of dog food to the Trumbull County Pound with their help and this year we will help more community dogs get spayed and neutered (to help the dogs AND reduce overpopulation).

We appreciate your hard work, generosity and your willingness to donate to the dogs in need. Thank you from all of us and the animals who benefit 🐶

Bambi, the face of our organization, also stopped in to say hello and thank you to the residents and staff 🥰

Community Spay/Neuter Assistance Program update! 🐶❤️ We are so thrilled to share that we were able to help “Mikey” get neutered and receive his rabies vaccine!

Having a dog takes a lot of responsibility, but we know that veterinary costs can sometimes feel out of reach when funds are limited. We want to help spay and neuter dogs whose families love them deeply but might be struggling with unexpected financial burden.

‼️ Spaying and neutering MATTERS! It reduces the chance of dangerous cancers and infections for the pup and also…. No more worrying about litters of puppies! Our community has enough dogs. 💯

We are currently raising funds to help even more dogs in our community and applications are still being accepted. More surgeries are already on the books..but we need your help!

🙏 Want to help us fund more procedures? Every donation makes a direct impact on local families and their pets as well as helping our shelters not fill up with more homeless pets.

The Canine Classroom will soon be teaming up with Thrive 10:10! 🐾 💜

🤝 Who is Thrive 10:10?
~If you aren't familiar with them yet, Thrive 10:10 is an incredible nonprofit rooted right here in the Mahoning Valley dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty. Under the leadership of Executive Director Meghan DeGregory, they work tirelessly to connect residents to economic, social, and educational opportunities through life-changing initiatives like Getting Ahead, Bridges Out of Poverty, Mental Health First Aid, and “Ruth's Boutique” *pictured below* (which even provides essential pet items 🐶 🐈 for families in need through “Woof’s Boutique”!).

🎯 Our Mission Together
🧍‍♂️🐶 Our goal with this partnership is to keep pets and owners together by focusing on proactive education, making sure both human and pet needs are met. 💜 We all know how important pet companionship is for SO MANY people. We will be working directly with owners to build their understanding of canine care and behavior, ensuring pets get their needs met while equipping owners to meet the practical responsibilities of pet ownership.

Through this collaboration, we will be educating adults on:
🐕 Responsible pet ownership
🧠 Dog behavior and body language

Community Spay/Neuter Assistance Program 🐶 🐕 WE WANT TO HELP! ❤️

At The Canine Classroom, we know that spaying and neutering are vital for your dog’s longterm health and for controlling pet overpopulation, but for some folks, veterinary costs can be a real burden.

We want to help local families who truly need a hand. We are fully funding spay or neuter procedures for TWO community dogs in Warren / Trumbull County!

✅Why Spaying & Neutering Matters 💡

✨ Longer, Healthier Lives: Reduces the risk of certain cancers, dangerous uterine infections (pyometra) in females, and prostate issues in males.

💜 Community Impact: Every procedure prevents unwanted litters from ending up in overcrowded local shelters.

🐾 PAW ALERT: Is the pavement too hot? 🐾

Take a look at the sign 🥵 those numbers aren't an exaggeration! We’ve seen tons of dogs walking on pavement.

It might feel like 90°+ day for you, but down on the street, that dark asphalt is absorbing heat like a magnet, skyrocketing to a scorching 145°+F! 🔥 At that temperature, it takes under 60 seconds for a dog’s sensitive paw pads to suffer painful burns.

Before you head out for a walk today, use the 7-Second Rule:

👋 Place the back of your hand firmly on the pavement.
⏱️ Hold it there for 7 seconds.
❌ If it’s too hot for you, it is absolutely too hot for their paws!

How to keep your pups safe in the summer heat:

🕰️ Adjust your clock: Stick to early morning or late evening walks when the ground has had time to cool down.
💚 Stick to the grass: Route your walks through shaded parks or grassy areas instead of asphalt and concrete.
🐾 Protect those paws: If you can't avoid the pavement, consider using protective paw wax or specialized dog booties.

Let's keep our furry best friends safe, comfortable, and burn-free this summer! Share this to spread the word to other pet parents! 🐶❤️
