Hi! Cassady here. My husband Jason and I have 5 boys: Kannon (21), Skylar (18), Kolson (18), Wyatt (13) and Deacon (7). We have both purchased and rescued several four legged family members over the years as I'm sure you can imagine with all these boys! Our favorite breed hands down has been the Bernedoodle. I know I know it's not an official "breed" and many of the old lines look down on them as "mutts" along with other fan favorite doodle mixes, but I would love to share with you some things that I think make them the absolute best family dogs and what inspired us to take our years of knowledge and breeding experience in the cattle industry and put it to work to bring you your next favorite family dog!
Number one on my list when I was searching for Arya was NO SHEDDING! I had it in my head that I would only purchase non-shedding dogs from here on out after years of our beloved rescue Brophy's white hair everywherreeee. Jokes on me as always because since we purchased Arya we have rescued two more guys (Max and Apollo) who of course shed all over everything. It was a nice thought while it lasted Ha! Arya is an F1b Bernedoodle, her mom is an F1 (which means her parents were a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle), and her dad is a pure bred Poodle. Because of the breed back to the poodle side she is 70% Poodle/30% Bernese. Because of this ratio she is completely non-shedding, with a lovely curly coat that requires regular grooming. For me the grooming is an easy trade for at least one dog who's not competing for how much hair they can leave on my floors! Aside from her non-shedding she is just the most gentle, loving, sweet natured and intelligent dog we have ever owned. Bernese Mountain dogs are very protective, chill, and loyal, while Poodles are known for being very intelligent sometimes to the point of mischievous. In my opinion the loyal protective ranch dog personality traits from the Bernese side mellow out the mischief from the poodle side and you are left with all of their best characteristics. These guys love their families something fierce, love to play (and have the energy to play), but also are just as happy to nap all day if that's what you have on the agenda. This breed isn't one that HAS to have work to do to keep them from being destructive, that was important for us, but we also didn't want a dog that would just lay around all day and be no fun for the boys either. The intelligence factor makes them easy and quick to train. Arya loves to swim, it did take some convincing to show her that we all were capable of swimming lol, her natural instincts had her attempting to rescue us from the water so we didn't drown! As long as it isn't too hot she loves to be outside among the other animals, she doesn't chase the cattle or horses, she prefers to lay near them and wait for us to finish our chores at the barn. She has always slept in our room, never required crate training or any convincing to sleep through the night. After seeing how amazing Arya was for us my dad decided he needed to find a Bernedoodle for himself! Along came Marley. Marley is an F1 Bernedoodle, so his parents are a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. His coat has a slightly different curl pattern than Arya's it's a little looser with only 50% Poodle but he still falls into almost completely non-shedding. Bernedoodles aren't just amazing family dogs, Marley has literally been Man's best friend for my dad. It's just the two of them and they are happy as can be! Whether you are an empty nester, or have a student leaving for college soon who will be on their own for the first time living alone can be hard. The right dog is a great way to improve quality of life for anyone, and the personality of a Bernedoodle is perfect for being your four legged best friend.
