John Q Public does not want a show dog! They only want a “pet”.

John doesn’t understand the world of purebred dogs. He is under the assumption that a show breeders product is a waste
of money because there is really no perceivable value to him.

John will avoid talking to a reputable preservation show breeder assuming he can’t afford a puppy anyway. Hence John starts looking for a bargain on the internet. He doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.

John will Google “basenji puppies” and find a few resources. He will assume Good Dog breeders are equal because they told him they screen their breeders. But guess what? They really don’t screen thoroughly, and no proof of anything is truly required, so it’s based on honor.

John will find kennels that have been breeding for 20+ years and assume that means something. But, it doesn’t mean anything beyond a time frame.

What John doesn’t know is that quality is not associated with registries. Temperament and health IS a part of the breed standard and both are inheritable.

Health is paramount to a show breeders program as they need a solid base for breeding. It’s all about the future.

In today’s anti dog climate and Adopt Don’t Shop propaganda campaigns there is ONLY one reason to breed dogs. One reason, ethically. And if you are NOT aligned you ARE INDEED part of the problem of over population. That reason is to IMPROVE the breed and leave it in a better place than you found it. To improve the quality of the dogs you produce in every aspect.

How is that accomplished?

**Showing your exhibits so they are evaluated by licensed and knowledgeable judges.

**Spending hundreds of dollars on specialty health testing for all breeding stock and puppies prior to rehoming.

**Selling puppies who fall short of the mark on contracts to neuter and spay at the appropriate age.

**Being responsible for EACH AND EVERY puppy produced for the lifetime of that animal. Meaning, taking them back for any reason at any time.

Preservation breeders have purpose and commitment. They invest thousands of dollars into their breed of choice.

The rest of them? They breed with purpose as well. One purpose. To make money off their dogs. To provide income for their families. At any cost.

We are not the same. Choose wisely

It’s BREEDING season folks!

Reservations lists are usually full by August.

Last minute buyers will scramble to find any available spot and can easily be duped into phantom breeding programs and get scammed out of thousands of dollars. Buyer BEWARE.

The price for a well bred puppy who has generations of documented health testing results and proven excellent temperaments is high. Expect to pay $1200-$3000 for a well bred puppy from a responsible breeder, based on geography.

Puppy mills sell untested, undocumented, unproven puppies for even more, and the public purchases, thus keeping them in business.

*Buy local if you can - breeder engagement and support is key for new owners - but choose quality.

*Research your breeder - call and ask questions. Expect documented paperwork to support their claims. No, embark testing is not the benchmark. Full testing includes OFA and AVCO.

*Expect to pay a fair price for a quality puppy. Reputable breeders do not haggle.

You can pay it now, or pay it later, but you WILL pay it. A well bred puppy is less expensive in the end.

*Do not expect to reserve “pick of the litter”. This is an outdated term that screams backyard breeder or puppy mill breeders. Breeders keep the best of the best for themselves to elevate and propagate their program. There is no purpose in breeding if you aren’t keeping something to go forward.

*Expect the appropriate puppy(s) to be matched to your household. We are the experts. This should be a forever transaction and we know which puppy/puppies are the best options for you, our buyer.

Bragging on this beautiful girl, Peachy.

Winners Bitch/Best of Winners/Best of Breed (over lovely specials) for a 5 pt major under Australian Hound Authority Mr Kerry Lee.

We started showing this girl very lightly as a puppy, to get her trained and socialized at dog shows. She was extremely slow to mature physically. She was very resistant to the lead and unsure of herself. She was nervous and did not eat well, especially on the road

Fast forward 15 months later….settled and showing like a rock star! Jumping up in the ring and asking for bait. Settled and comfortable and loving to show off….

Sometimes you just need to be patient.

My gratitude to owner Kevin who has patiently worked with Peachy and done an excellent job socializing her. Great owners are an integral part of our breeding program. We CAN NOT be successful without them….we welcome local inquires for show permissive homes.

⚖️ THE PEOPLE vs. RESPONSIBLE BREEDERS
Now appearing in the Court of Facebook, where feelings are evidence, memes are research and the loudest person automatically becomes an expert.

Attorney: State your occupation.

Breeder: Preservation breeder.

Attorney: So—you breed puppies for money?

Breeder: Absolutely. I recently spent $4,000 to produce $3,000 worth of puppies. I’ll be ordering my yacht as soon as I finish scrubbing diarrhea off the laundry-room wall.

Attorney: Shelters are overflowing because people like you keep producing dogs!

Breeder: Of course. My health-tested puppies—sold with lifetime support and a return-to-breeder agreement—personally drove themselves to every shelter in America.

Meanwhile, Billy Bob’s fourth accidental litter is listed online beside a used refrigerator, but apparently he’s just an innocent victim of unfenced love.

Attorney: Everyone should stop shopping and adopt mutts!

Breeder: Brilliant. Let’s stop deliberately breeding healthy dogs to written standards and allow genetics to operate like an unsupervised trailer-park reunion.

Attorney: Purebred dogs aren’t necessary.

Breeder: Neither is Wi-Fi, but I bet you’d start swinging a folding chair if yours disappeared.

Attorney: Breed standards are just vanity.

Breeder: Yes, those silly little details like structure, sound movement, predictable size, stable temperament and the ability to perform the job the breed was created to do. Completely useless—until your “small, calm apartment dog” reaches 87 pounds, eats the drywall and attempts to herd the upstairs neighbors.

Attorney: Mixed-breed dogs make wonderful pets!

Breeder: They absolutely can. Nobody said otherwise. But if every responsible breeder quits, eventually every dog becomes a brown mystery named Buddy.

Buddy’s DNA results will say 6% Chihuahua, 14% Husky, 20% livestock guardian, 9% terrier and 51% “close the gate and pray.”

Attorney: If everyone adopted, shelters would eventually be empty.

Breeder: Wonderful! And after responsible breeders are gone, where will future dogs come from?

Attorney: Shelters.

Breeder: And where will shelters get them?

Attorney: From people who breed dogs.

Breeder: So your master plan requires people to keep breeding dogs irresponsibly so you’ll have dogs to rescue—while attacking the people breeding them responsibly?

Attorney: That’s not what I said.

Breeder: It’s exactly what you said. You just wrapped it in a bumper sticker and hoped nobody would apply basic arithmetic.

Attorney: Responsible breeders should simply stop.

Breeder: Then say goodbye to predictable breeds. No more carefully preserved Labradors, Poodles, German Shepherds, Chinese Cresteds or hundreds of other breeds developed for specific purposes.

Attorney: We’ll still have dogs.

Breeder: Certainly. We’ll have Buddy—part hound, part cattle dog, part sofa assassin and entirely capable of clearing a six-foot fence before your morning coffee.

Attorney: So you hate rescue dogs?

Breeder: No. That tired accusation is what people use when their argument has collapsed like a discount lawn chair at a family reunion.

Rescue a dog. Purchase from a responsible breeder. Do both. Just stop pretending one good choice requires publicly flogging the other.

Attorney: I’m offended.

Breeder: Being offended isn’t the same as being correct. It just means the truth arrived without bubble wrap.

⚖️ CASE DISMISSED

Reason: The prosecution presented one slogan, three memes, no understanding of genetics and a halo tilted so far sideways it nearly struck the court reporter.

Adopt responsibly. Shop responsibly. Commit for life.

And please stop acting like purebred dogs grow wild behind the shelter and are harvested every spring by rescue fairies. 😂🐾 ( author Evercrest Kennels)
