During Child Abuse Prevention Month, we want to highlight an organization making a meaningful impact in this space.
The Net provides critical support to women who are survivors of trafficking, offering resources, community, and a path toward healing and recovery.
In 2022, a federal law was enacted to allow survivors of trafficking to block items related to their trafficking experiences from their background checks. This provided a significant resource, because many survivors found themselves blocked from employment, housing and credit due to their background check history, much of which stemmed from action outside their control.
Unfortunately, the law was implemented with no clear process for survivors to follow. To address this lack, Abues Prevention Systems developed the necessary forms for survivors to submit block requests to background check companies. Then, through our partnership with The Net, we tested and refined the process and template forms. One by one, survivors were able to remove exploitation-related records, and take steps to rebuild their lives.
We are honored to support the work of The Net and its life-changing impact.
