Two weeks ago, we received 3 different owner surrender intake requests within 2 days of each other for 3 different puppies under 20 weeks old! Luckily, we had 2 pre-approved LSDR home ready, able & excited to adopt puppies! (One of the pups was given away to the original owner's co-worker even though we had placement for it too.) The other 2 that went to LSDR homes are doing great & will have the absolute best lives ahead of them!

Sad news this week. Lex (formerly known as Lanny) passed peacefully & without warning in his sleep Monday night from suspected DCM. He would've been 11 yo this Christmas. He was such an amazing companion. His family is heartbroken & in shock. Please keep them in your prayers.
💔🪽🐾🌈❤️

Lex had a wonderful, completely normal, happy, great day prior. This is why DCM is known as the silent killer- there are no symptoms until it's late stage and some times the 1st symptom is sudden death. Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) is our breed's #1 cause of death - it is a genetic issue that plagues our breed. Although research continues to try to find a cure, there isn't one. Only early detection screenings & starting meds to slow it down & manage it- but when caught early & meds are started, it can prolong life 1-4 yrs! Imagine having that much more time with your beloved Dobe.
Early detection screenings are available, although most general veterinarians don't ever recommend, don't know (or if they do) the correct tests unfortunately. As a Doberman owner, *if* you want to, it's up to you to learn more about early detection & what 2 screenings must be done annually for early detection. Once your armed with the knowledge, you can advocate for your Dobe, get the correct tests done and prolong your dogs life.
We're happy to share information on early detection- just email us.

▪︎Dobby BAS-A-135769 male, estimated to be 7+ years old, intake date 07/22/2026. Dobby was brought in as a stray, but the "finders" ran out the door before we could get any information from them about how/where found.
▪︎Temperament - very sweet with all humans, knows sit and shake. Enjoys being outside (with us) and sniffing around.
▪︎Dog testing at the shelter - good with dogs, somewhat dominant. (Not recommended in a home with other male dogs.)
▪︎Fully vetted - vaccinated with dhpp, Bordetella, and rabies. Heartworm negative as of 8/16/26, neutered
▪︎Any injury/sickness or other health concerns- has ear infection we are treating right now
▪︎Available for foster or adoption directly through the shelter? Yes available for adoption, foster, and we offer a two week trial adoption

Bones (available now) took a recent road trip vacation to the desert with his foster family to an AirBnB & did amazing! It was also a great time to get some great new photos! Enjoy!
●Bones is 4+ yr old, male who is a sweet & silly boy! A gorgeous boy who gets all the looks! But he's not just another pretty face, he's smart & a total lover! And a smiler! He is potty trained; he's great with female dogs 15 lbs & larger but can also be great in an only dog home. He's done good in playgroups with multiple dogs but can't live full-time with other males in his same home. He's also crate trained & seems to be doing well staying loose in the home for short periods. He also respects baby gates as a boundary. Bones is a wonderful boy but does get overly excited when he sees people & other animals through windows (car & home) but that's just a teaching & learning opportunity so he will need continued reactivity & impulse training we have started in his foster home- he is already showing great potential! He is available now for adoption.
■We adopt to all areas of Texas as well as parts of OK, AR & LA.
🛑SERIOUS inquiries will EMAIL us. We never see all fb comments & don't discuss fostering or adopting details here on a public page so just email us! Please do not make comments about emailing or applying here, just do it! Those types of comments are not helplful to a dog in need.

Sad news for 2017 LSDR alum Rex (formerly Santo) who gained his wings a few days ago at 10.7 yrs old. Mom Linda says he was absolutely the best boy ever & we know that to be true for all the ways he helped his foster sister Megan when she arrived so fearful & ultimately became so sick with cancer. Rex was so patient & good for her. And he adored his mama. Please keep her & their family in your prayers.
