Aboite Animal Hospital is a locally owned small animal and exotic veterinary hospital. Over the past 4 decades, we have developed a reputation as a veterinary hospital which serves our community with the utmost honesty, integrity and compassion. Dr. Dan Rodgers started the practice in 1973. After 45 years of practice, he retired in 2018 and sold the practice to Dr. Brian Koesters, Dr. Bill Chastain, and Dr. Jamie Stover. We have 4 veterinarians on staff: Dr. Bill Chastain, Dr. Linda Parker, Dr. Nicole Koch, and Dr. Cassie Ceckowski. Our doctors are supported by several registered veterinary nurses, assistants and client service representatives. Together, we strive to deliver the best care possible for each individual patient and their family. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards of veterinary medicine. We are an AAHA accredited practice (American Animal Hospital Association), as well as a Certified Cat Friendly practice. Our staff regularly receives fear-free training to help those patients who are anxious and nervous when coming in for an exam or receiving medical care while in hospital.

🐍 Sssssomebody special stopped by last week! 🐍

Dr. Parker got to examine this beautiful albino Reticulated Python who was quite the sight to see! 🤍💛 At approximately 7 feet long and weighing just over 11 pounds, she was an impressive patient!

We always love seeing unique species come through our doors. Veterinary medicine is never boring! 🩺🐍

🐭⚠️ Rodenticide Poisoning: Don’t Wait for Symptoms!

If you know or suspect your pet has ingested rodenticide, contact your veterinarian right away — even if your pet seems completely normal. Some types of rodenticide can cause delayed symptoms, and early treatment can make a significant difference.

And if possible, BRING THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING WITH YOU - Different rodenticides contain different active ingredients and require different treatments, so knowing exactly what your pet may have ingested is extremely helpful.

MYTH: It’s cold outside, so fleas are gone!

FACT: Fleas did not get the memo.

Just because it’s sweater weather doesn’t mean your pet gets a break from flea prevention. Fleas can happily hang out in warm, cozy homes all fall/winter long—and they’d love nothing more than to make your pet their new roommate. 🏠🐶🐱

Don’t let these tiny freeloaders move in! Keep your pets protected year-round. 🦟🚫

🍄 Fall means mushroom season! 🍄

With cooler temperatures and wet weather, mushrooms can start popping up all over our yards, parks, and walking trails — sometimes seemingly overnight!

The problem? It can be very difficult to tell a safe mushroom from a toxic one just by looking at it. Some species can cause severe illness, liver or kidney damage, seizures, and even death.

🐾 If your pet likes to sniff, explore, or snack on things they find outside, keep an extra eye out for mushrooms this time of year!

If you think your pet has eaten a wild mushroom, contact your veterinarian right away — don't wait for symptoms to appear. If possible, take a photo or sample of the mushroom for identification.

🍄 When in doubt, keep those curious noses away! 🐾

Buzz, Junior & Woodson came to see us yesterday for their big-boy day at the hospital 🥹💙 These three brothers brought triple the cuddles, triple the puppy kisses, and approximately ZERO chill. 😂🐶🐶🐶

Safe to say, our hearts were completely stolen. 🥰🐾✨

🐾 What’s changed since your pet’s exam last year?

A lot can change in a year — and sometimes the changes happen so gradually that we don’t even realize they’re happening.

During your pet’s annual exam, we’re looking for changes such as:

⚖️ Weight or body condition
❤️ Heart and lung sounds
🔍 New lumps, bumps, or skin changes
💉 Vaccine and prevention needs
🥣 Changes in eating or drinking habits

Those changes in eating and drinking can be especially easy to overlook. If your pet has gradually started drinking more water or eating differently, you may not notice because it happens little by little. Eventually, it can just become their “new normal.”

That’s why a thorough history and physical exam are so important. Comparing what we find today with what was normal for your pet last year can help us catch subtle changes and determine whether they need a closer look.
