Sometimes taking it slow means VERY slow. I haven't seen this guy in over 6 months and he's very nervous about people, so day 1 of our sit was focused on getting him comfortable with me again. At first we spent about an hour sitting near the steps, gradually moving a little closer as he became more comfortable around me. Eventually, he was able to relax with me sitting right beside him. π He wasn't quite ready to be friends again yet, but that's ok! Trust takes time, and as long as I could keep him fed, clean, and safe, there was no need to rush things.
The next 4 days of the sit involved lots of patience, lots of bravery from him, and LOTS of walks. Getting all of his energy out was a big part of helping him regulate his anxiety, and gave him an activity to look forward to sharing with me π By the end of the sit, he was joining me on the couch for cuddles and asking for belly rubs! π₯Ίπ His fear wasn't quite gone, but he trusted me enough to show a bit more of his personality and invite me to interact with him, and that makes all of the effort more than worth it!
