🚨🌪️ FINAL CALL: TOMORROW MORNING IS YOUR LAST CHANCE TO FOSTER! 🐾

We are almost there, but we still need YOU. 💜

Tomorrow morning is your LAST CHANCE to pick up a foster before PAWS closes ahead of Hurricane Isaias.

🐱 A couple of cats still need foster homes.
🐶 ABOUT 20 DOGS STILL NEED SOMEWHERE SAFE TO GO.

We need our community to rally one more time! If you have room in your home and your heart, please consider taking in a foster. Even if you can only help for the duration of the storm, you can make an incredible difference for an animal who needs a safe place to land.

⏰ IMPORTANT PICKUP DEADLINE: PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY!

We ask that all foster animals be picked up BEFORE 11:30 AM TOMORROW. Our staff needs time to finish up, secure the building, and leave by noon so they can travel home safely before conditions worsen.

🐶 Interested in fostering a dog? If you have dogs in your home, your dogs must be present for a meet-and-greet with your potential foster. Please plan accordingly so we can help ensure everyone is comfortable and set up for success.

📧 Ready to help? Please apply here:

Once approved, please come to PAWS. We are doing our best to answer questions, but we are very busy with storm preparations, and getting animals out to foster homes.

💜 TO OUR INCREDIBLE COMMUNITY — THANK YOU!

To everyone who has shared our posts, spread the word, submitted a foster application, or walked through our doors and taken an animal or two home: THANK YOU. Every share, every act of kindness, and every animal welcomed into a safe home has helped us get closer to our goal.

We know this is a stressful time for everyone, and we don’t take your generosity for granted. You have shown these animals that they are not alone, and you have reminded our team why this community is so special. 💜🐾🩵

We have one more morning to get these animals to safety. Let’s make it count.

Please share. Please step up. Help us get every possible animal into a safe home before the storm. 💜🐾🩵

You may be hearing more about New World Screwworm (NWS), a parasitic fly whose larvae can infest wounds in warm-blooded animals, including dogs and cats. While NWS was eradicated from the United States decades ago, it has been moving northward, and the first animal case in the current outbreak was confirmed in Texas on June 3, 2026.

The good news? Awareness, prevention, and early veterinary care can help protect your pets.

Help reduce your pet's risk by:
• Keeping heartworm, flea, tick, and mite prevention up to date, as parasite bites can create entry points for infestation and pets not on preventatives are at higher risk.
• Checking your pet daily for cuts, sores, or skin changes
• Cleaning and monitoring wounds promptly
• Consulting your veterinarian before traveling with your pet near or south of the U.S. border

Contact us right away if your pet has:
• A wound that is getting larger or deeper instead of healing
• A foul or unusual odor coming from a wound
• Visible larvae (maggots) in a wound
• Bloody or unusual discharge
• Unexplained pain, irritation, behavioral changes, or loss of appetite

We understand that news like this can feel concerning, but you don't have to navigate it alone. Our team is staying current on guidance from USDA APHIS, the FDA, and AVMA, and we're here to answer your questions, assess your pet's risk, and provide personalized recommendations.

If your pet is not currently on parasite preventatives, or if their protection has lapsed, contact us to discuss the best options for getting them back on track.

If you have concerns about your pet or notice anything unusual, contact or visit https://companionpetvets.com/. Your pet's health and safety remain our top priority.
