It's Asthma Season in Georgia! When the weather is hot and humid our asthma patients can really suffer with this condition. Treatment is some horses can be very complicated and expensive. A new treatment has become available that has shown definitive clinical success by acting to stimulate the horses own immune system to help manage the disease.
Treatment is quick and easy and can be done here or on your farm.
We are also using this therapy to stop Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage (EIPH) or Bleeder's Syndrome in racehorses.
Watch to see this treatment in action.

As August comes to a close, it’s a helpful time to check in on your horse’s overall condition. Body weight, hoof quality, coat condition, hydration, and energy levels can all offer clues about health and comfort.

Seasonal transitions are easier when care routines stay proactive. A simple wellness check now can help set horses up for a smooth move into fall.

Flies and other pests can become especially bothersome during late summer. Beyond being irritating, they can affect comfort, behavior, and overall well-being.

Clean stalls, proper manure management, fly masks, and regular checks can help reduce pest-related stress. A more comfortable horse is a happier horse.

It takes a lot to be a veterinarian. Horses present their own special challenges! Goodness knows we are very familiar with the weather, dirt roads, barns without electricity, gates that only open for special humans and the joys of summer bugs.
I didn't mention the knowledge and training that it takes to do this. But their is a special gift that belongs to those who can care for the horse while smiling and providing an exceptional, caring experience for the horse and owner.
Our very own Dr. Rachel Zaccaro earned her very first 5 Star Review this month and she's only been practicing for 2 months!
Today we salute Dr. Zaccaro and we look forward to seeing her growth in equine practice!

Horse fact: Horses communicate through more than just sounds. Their ears, eyes, posture, tail movement, and facial expressions can all give clues about how they are feeling.

Learning to observe these subtle signals can help owners, riders, and caretakers better understand a horse’s comfort, mood, and needs. Paying attention is one of the simplest ways to support trust and connection.

National Relaxation Day is a good reminder that rest is an important part of every horse’s routine. Recovery time supports physical comfort, mental balance, and long-term performance.

Whether it’s a quiet grooming session, turnout time, or a lighter day, rest can be just as valuable as training. Healthy horses need both movement and recovery.

As late summer approaches, many barns, riders, and families begin shifting back into regular routines. Horses often do best when changes in feeding, exercise, turnout, or training are made gradually.

A slow and steady approach can help reduce stress and support a smoother transition. Consistency is key when helping horses adapt to new schedules.

Hydration remains especially important during the hottest weeks of summer. Horses may need extra support after exercise, travel, turnout, or long days in warm conditions.

Fresh water, shade, and careful monitoring can help prevent heat-related stress. When needed, electrolytes may also support recovery and encourage healthy fluid balance.
