🇺🇸The Fourth of July🇺🇸 is rapidly approaching and with it being the 250th celebration, our local towns have 💥💥BIG💥💥 things planned.
NOW is the time to contact us if your pet will need some extra help staying calm during all the celebrations, not July 3rd.

Other Things to Consider🐶🐱:
1️⃣Pet ID Tags and Microchips. Make sure your pet has an ID collar on with your most current information to contact. An escaped or nervous pet can be returned to their owner if this information is current. Another form of identification is a microchip. If your pet is microchipped, make sure the chip is registered and that information is also current.

2️⃣ Create a safe and comfortable place for your pet- INSIDE. You can mask some of the fireworks💥 noise by turning on a TV, fan or radio. Give them a toy or treat to keep them distracted as well.

3️⃣ Limit pets access to picnic foods. Many people will be celebrating🥳 with guests and extra food and snacks. Make sure these are out of reach of your pets since some of the foods may be toxic if eaten by them.

4️⃣If your pet needs some calming medication, contact us and we can help make this celebration easy for you and your pet!

📣New World Screw Worm

The USDA has a designated website to help animal owners with their questions about this emerging problem that has been identified in the USA now. This website will have the most current information on the number and location of cases, as well as information on what to look for with this serious pest.

❌BASICS❌

🔸New world screw worm is a pest that affects livestock, pets, and wildlife (and less commonly people and birds). Adult screw worm flies are about the size of a common house fly or slightly larger.

🔸NWS is NOT contagious and does not spread directly from animals to people or from person to person.

🔸Herds that have found to be infected are not required to have the whole herd culled. The herd WILL be placed under quarantine and the animals will be treated and quarantined until all wounds are healed and there is no evidence of NWS.

🔸There are approved products approved for treatment of NWS in both large and small animals.

🔸The US food supply remains safe since NWS is not a food safety issue.

👀What to look for 👀

🔹Maggots in wounds or other body openings

🔹Wounds that have bloody discharge or foul odor, wounds may become deeper and larger as the maggots grow and feed on the living tissue.
