But redness, discharge, rubbing, light sensitivity, or holding one eye partly closed can all point to eye discomfort, and some eye problems can change quickly.

Sometimes an eye problem shows up as a behavior change before it looks like an eye problem.

A dog that suddenly hides in darker rooms, avoids sunny areas, or turns away from bright windows may be experiencing eye discomfort. That does not tell us exactly what is happening, but it gives us an important clue.

New changes, especially when paired with squinting, redness, discharge, or rubbing, are worth having checked.

Sudden sensitivity to light can be a sign that something is bothering your dog’s eyes.
