Judy arrived at the shelter very shy and wouldn’t even get off her bed because she was so afraid. Staff and volunteers socialized with her and got her used to the routine of going outside and being touched. She’s much better now and has a bounce in her step and a sparkle in her eyes.

We think she’ll be a lot more confident in a home setting please consider adopting or checking her out as a Weekend Warrior.

Jasmine is the longest stay cat resident at LCDAS. She’s about a year old and has been waiting for a home for over a month. Black cats often linger because they don’t especially stand out and are much harder to photograph.

She’s playful but a little reluctant to come out of her cat condo maybe due to the shelter environment. We’re sure she would be more confident in a home setting.

Please consider adopting Jasmine!

We instantly all fell in love with this tall, skinny guy. He’s a gentle sensitive boy who loves his humans and has been sociable with the other dogs, walks well on leash and keeps his kennel clean.

If you like big dogs Rodney would make a wonderful addition to your family. We have no history or experience with him being around cats or kids.

Darius has so much potential! He is at that ideal age where curiosity meets capacity, a blank canvas, ready to learn and grow into the ultimate good boy.

He’s eager to please, and thrives on engagement, which makes him an exceptional candidate for structured training and positive reinforcement.

He’s very easy to love and we’re hoping his adopter understands that consistency, clear boundaries and daily guidance will unlock the absolute best version of Darius.

UPDATE: Milo is going to the Humane Society of Sarasota.

Life is Good until it isn’t.
Milo was adopted 7 years ago as a puppy and was recently owner surrendered because he was too “hyper”😠.

We think he’s anything but hyper, in fact we think he’s a gentleman that walks well on leash, keeps his kennel tidy and is polite and sociable with the other dogs he’s met here at LCDAS.

Let’s work together to get this good pupper out of the shelter and into a home!
Please share or consider adopting Milo!

(He along with numerous other dogs are missing from the website, it might be a website issue, we will find out tomorrow at opening)

We posted Hobbs about a month ago, letting you know that he was here as a puppy, then adopted and a year and a half later found as a very skinny stray.

He’s now filled out and is healthy and very ready to find a family and a fresh start. We adore this handsome guy!

When Junie arrived on the adoption floor she was very meek, timid and likely overwhelmed by the noisy shelter environment. Thankfully she was adopted by a nice family and this is a recent update we received:

“When our 11.5 year old dog passed away in February we were heartbroken. We weren’t sure we were ready to adopt, but told ourselves we would go to the shelter to “dip our toes in the water” and see how we felt when we saw some of the animals.

We instantly fell in love will a 7 year old staffy mix , formerly known as gentle Junie.

Say hello to Cassie Cain! We are DC comic fans and that’s Batgirl’s real name in the comics. I have never met a more affectionate and loving dog in all my life. She is the sweetest! We are still grieving the loss of our dog but she has made it possible for us to feel love again with her constant cuddles and kisses. And we just adore her and we are so happy she is our new buddy.

The 3-3-3 rule is still happening. First three days she would sit by the front door, but after a few really good decompression sleeps she started trusting us more. She’s been home with us for a month now and she’s really thriving. She loves to just sleep and cuddle on all the couches & beds, she has her own “dog couch” as well. She is perfectly content with just giving kisses and being pet all day long. Still has very little interest in toys but loves cheese and cheese flavored treats as well as pup cups. She did have the zoomies for the first time last week which was adorable to watch because that meant she trusted us enough to let her guard down and play. She’s terrified of thunder and rain storms and doesn’t like to go outside to potty at night in the dark . Her tail is still tucked in at times but it’s up wagging more and more each day. She has her heartworm procedures at LCDAS in the end of September and we are all a little anxious about it but look forward to getting her healthy.

Thank you again for helping us find the perfect pet for our family. Cassie is settling in very nicely and continuing to be opening up more and more each day.”

We thank this family for adopting and not letting her shyness, heartworm positive status or age deter them from considering sweet Junie 💕.
