Getting to know Plum Hollow: Katie

Katie has worked for the Fraker family for 7 years. She is usually the one behind the camera taking puppy pictures and videos for social media. Katie manages the Plum Hollow social media accounts and, with the help of her husband and kids, takes care of the dogs in the kennel when the Frakers are traveling. She assists with dog registration and helps bring any ideas to life that Logan may have.

Katie has a few dogs of her own from Plum Hollow, but her favorite in the kennel is Luna.

Getting to Know Plum Hollow BC: Leighton

Leighton is Logan and Ashley’s son. His favorite Border Collie is Cruz! He loves the red and white border collies, too.

Leighton, like his sister, helps out a lot with day-to-day tasks on the farm and works with the dogs often. He is great at helping to socialize the puppies and is always ready to chat with anyone who comes to visit.

Thanks, Leighton for being so welcoming to all who enter Plum Hollow!

Getting to know the Plum Hollow Team: Analynn

Analynn is the daughter of Logan and Ashley.

Analynn has lots of responsibilities on the farm, caring for animals and helping with daily chores.

Her favorite dog is Emma, who she has competed with at trials! Her favorite thing about Emma is having a co-worker and buddy by her side all day, every day.

If you’ve seen these two around the farm, you know how true that is. Analynn and Emma have a very strong bond. 🐾

Thanks Analynn for all you do to make Plum Hollow a special place!

Welcome to our new series where we introduce the whole Plum Hollow Border Collies family!

Our first introduction is the man in charge- Logan

If you’ve been in contact with PHBC, you’ve chatted with Logan. He owns and operates the kennel, which he established in 2013.

Logan has worked hard to bring only the top genetics into the kennel, and maintain the integrity of the business through the best breeding practices.

In recent years he has started competing in stock dog trials with a few of his dogs, and has become passionate about helping to build the community of stock dogs and their handlers in Pennsylvania.

Currently, Logan is closest with his dog Cruz(pictured below), but there’s a lot of dogs who have a special place in his heart!

Last weekend we were privileged to host another working dog trial. There were some talented dog handlers, some rock star dogs, and great sportsmanship all around. We’re excited to see so much interest in the sport, and can’t wait to see where it goes from here!

With nearly 100 runs on the first day, and around 90 on the second day, our schedule was packed. It was a long, weekend, exhausting in the best way.

One thing we noticed that really stood out to us was the community that was building around the arena. Instead of being grouchy because everyone was tired, there was joy. People genuinely happy to be there. Thankful for the opportunity to learn and compete and do something they love.

Kids playing, dog handlers chatting about the different techniques they use, competitors congratulating each other, sharing meals together. Every once in a while you’d hear a group laughing.

We don’t see that kind of thing enough anymore in our world, and we’re really happy that our trial - and many other trials- can be a place to find friendship and community.

If you’ve ever had an interest in working dogs- especially our personal favorite, Border Collies- please reach out to us. We’d love to see more people enjoying this sport, the dogs, and learning communication skills between handler and dog. And finding some friends along the way!
