“But doesn’t my dog need hands-on training?”
We get this question all the time — and the answer might surprise you.

Virtual dog training isn’t just effective — it’s often more effective for long-term behavior change. Why? Because the goal isn’t for the trainer to control your dog. The goal is for you to learn how to lead with confidence.

At Sam Ivy K9, your trainer shows you exactly what to do in real time. You’ll get hands-on guidance, live demonstrations, and instant feedback — all in your home, where problem behaviors actually happen.

We also coach you through tough situations, help you build consistency, and guide you to become the handler your dog truly listens to — even with reactivity, anxiety, or aggression.

The truth? Virtual works — because you do.
We guide. You lead. Your dog transforms.

Why Sam Ivy Virtual Training Works Better Than Traditional Dog Training

When most people hear "virtual dog training," they picture pre-recorded videos and generic advice — not real solutions. But at Sam Ivy K9, we’ve helped thousands of dogs transform their behavior without ever setting foot in your home. Here's how:

– We train your dog in your environment — not a facility. That means real-life practice where problems actually happen: your home, your walks, your daily routine.
– We ship you the equipment you need, so you’re set up for success from day one.
– You get a dedicated trainer, customized plan, and full access to our online training portal with session recordings, graphics, and homework — all on demand.
– Best of all? You’re never alone. Bad training day? Not sure what to do next? You can call, text, or video chat your trainer anytime.

It’s structure. It’s support. And it’s designed to give you the tools to lead your dog with confidence.

“Why do we use crates, leashes, and place commands so much?”
It’s one of the most common questions we hear — and the answer is simple: structure prevents chaos.

If your dog struggles to settle, can’t be left alone without mischief, or is struggling with behavior problems, you don’t need to “train harder” — you need a better system.

That’s where the Triangle comes in.

The goal is for your dog to spend 75% of their time with you in structured zones:
– 25% in the crate
– 25% on leash
– 25% on a defined spot/place

The remaining 25% is supervised interactive time (play, cuddles, or a walk). Some dogs can handle that full 25% right away — others may only tolerate 5–10% at first.

And no, Triangle time doesn’t mean hours on end. It can be used in short, structured blocks of 15–30 minutes depending on your dog’s energy, age, or the environment.

Used well, this system teaches your dog to settle faster, builds consistency in your expectations, and prevents them from rehearsing bad behaviors — the #1 reason so many dogs stay stuck in chaos.

Dogs don’t grow out of bad habits — they grow into what’s reinforced.
Structure gives you the power to shape the dog you actually want to live with.

Need help implementing it? We’ve got your back.

The Most Underrated Training Tool? The Leash.

Most people think of a leash as just something you use for walks — but in reality, it’s one of the most powerful (and underutilized) tools in dog training.

Here’s why the leash matters:

– It helps prevent unwanted or dangerous behaviors by keeping your dog close and under control.
– It gives you perfect timing to interrupt or correct your dog when they break a command.
– It teaches your dog to settle in the house by guiding them into calm, consistent routines.
– It creates clear communication and structure, which builds trust and reduces confusion.

Whether you’re inside your home or out in the world, a leash isn’t just for safety — it’s for success.

Use it intentionally, and you’ll see just how much calmer, more focused, and more responsive your dog can be.

Real results, real families.
McKenzie and her crew saw huge changes within just one week — and by the end of training, their home felt calmer, their walks were smoother, and their dogs were thriving.

That’s the power of consistent, customized training.

How to Train Calm Guest Manners (Using a Spot Command)

Does your dog bark, jump, or bolt when people come to the door?
Here’s a simple, effective way to prevent chaos: teach them to go to a spot and stay put when guests arrive. It’s easier than you think — and makes a huge difference in your home.

Here’s how to get started:

Step 1: Choose a Defined Spot
Pick a bed, cot, or mat in a low-traffic area with a good view of the door. This becomes your dog’s “go-to” place when the doorbell rings.

Step 2: Introduce the Spot
Use food rewards and leash guidance to help your dog get on and off the spot. Mark and reward when they go there. Repeat until they go willingly and happily.

Step 3: Add Distance, Duration, and Distraction
Start stepping away while your dog stays on the spot. Increase how long they stay. Begin adding distractions like movement, noise, or toys — all while reinforcing calm behavior.

Step 4: Practice Guest Scenarios
Now practice the real thing. Knock on the door, ring the bell, walk in and out — and reward your dog for staying put. Keep sessions short, fun, and successful.

Consistency builds calm.
Your dog learns that staying in place gets them praise, food, and freedom — while chaotic greetings don’t. And you get a peaceful, polite welcome every time someone visits.
