Meet Sunshine, our featured 365+ Club Member in our September newsletter. 🐕🔦📰 She has been waiting 404 days to find a forever home. 🏡☀️

Sunshine will brighten your life when you adopt this sweet girl!
Sunshine is a 2 years old, Terrier / Hound mix that is about 40 lbs of cuteness. She loves to play with other dogs and is currently in a foster home that raves about what a smart girl she is. Her foster family has been teaching her to walk well on a leash and basic commands. She is already potty trained and crate trained. Sunshine is a sweet snuggle buddy with adults and dogs. An active family that understands the importance of routine and enrichment for puppies would be a great match for little miss Sunshine. 🦴💖🌻

Sunshine is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and ready to be your best friend! Being in a foster home, provides extra insight into her great personality that we can’t wait to share with you! ✨💕🐶

Join us for a play date with our adoptable cuties ✨Billy and Roxie!✨ 🐶🥰 Both of these young dogs love to play with other pups and have been enjoying spending time together at our shelter. They are not a bonded pair, but they would both love a home with another dog who likes to play ruff. 🏡🦴💕

🩶 Billy is a goofy, happy puppy who loves to play, snuggle, and make you laugh. He’s about 11 months old and 28.5 lbs, and looks like a Bulldog mix. Billy loves his toys and is a fun little guy who would thrive in a home that can keep up with his puppy energy, training, and enrichment. If you’re looking for a little comedian, Billy is going to steal the show!

🤎 Roxie is an adorable 11 months month old hound puppy with a sweet, gentle, and goofy personality. Roxie is a social butterfly who loves our volunteers and has been friendly with both dogs and cats at the shelter. She does need some basic puppy training, but she’s treat-motivated and ready to learn!

It’s soup season ✨ say hello to Miso Soup! 🐈‍⬛🍵 This adorable little boy is a sweet, playful kitten with a personality that will melt your heart. 💕

🖤 Miso Soup loves being around his kitty friends and can happily spend hours playing, pouncing, and exploring with his favorite toys. He is also a total lovebug who enjoys attention and soaking up affection from his people. There’s something incredibly comforting about Miso Soup, just like his namesake, he has a warm, cozy presence that makes you feel better simply by being around him. He’s the kind of kitten who can keep you laughing during playtime and then curl up beside you when it’s time to relax.

🤎 Meet Chicken Noodle Soup, the sweetest little guy from our adorable Soup Litter! This beautiful medium-haired tabby is full of personality and absolutely loves attention and affection. Just like a warm bowl of chicken noodle soup, he has a comforting and soothing presence that makes you feel right at home. Chicken Noodle Soup is a playful boy who enjoys romping around with his kitty friends and having a blast with his favorite toys, but he is always ready for some extra love and affection from his people. He is the perfect mix of fun, comfort, affection, and charm, making him a wonderful companion to brighten your days.

Please help us share Milo so he can find a foster or adopter! ❤️ Milo is a 5-year-old, 70-pound cuddle bug who truly believes he was born to be a lap dog! Despite his size, this sweet boy is happiest snuggled up next to his person, and his true calling is being the perfect companion. 💕🐶 Milo loves to play, especially with plushies and balls, but nothing makes him happier than being by your side. He’ll follow you around the house like your very own little shadow, patiently waiting for you to finish whatever you’re doing so he can join you on the couch or bed for some well deserved cuddles. 🫶🥰

Milo has lived happily with five cats and has enjoyed plenty of playdates with other dogs, and he absolutely loves people. He’s also a big fan of car rides and would happily be your co-pilot for every adventure. 😻✨

Milo does have a condition called Masticatory Muscle Myositis (MMM). In simple terms, it’s an immune-system condition. With proper veterinary care and management, dogs with MMM can still enjoy happy, loving lives. Milo is so much more than his medical diagnosis. He is a sweet, loving boy who has so much affection and companionship to offer his forever family for many more years to come. Milo qualifies for Abandoned Pet Rescue’s Medical Adoption Program, which means his veterinary care will be provided by APR’s clinic for Milo’s life. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and otherwise a happy, healthy dog. ❣️

🐈 It’s Ginger Cat Appreciation Day! 🐈 Meet two of our sweet orange cats, Ares and Apollo! 🐯

🧡 Ares may be named after the powerful god of war, but this handsome orange tabby is all about love. Full of affection and charm, Ares is the kind of kitten who loves being the center of attention and is always happy to soak up pets, cuddles, and quality time with his people. His sweet personality makes it easy to fall in love with him, and he’s never shy about showing affection in return.

🧡 Apollo is a handsome orange tabby with a personality that shines just as brightly as his name. This sweet kitten loves attention and is always happy to be near his people, soaking up pets and affection whenever he can. Friendly, loving, and full of charm, Apollo has a way of winning hearts wherever he goes.

When they are not cuddling or seeking out attention, they are busy enjoying all the fun that kittenhood has to offer with their playful sides! 🧶😸✨

After waiting nearly a year at Abandoned Pet Rescue, Peele found his Second Chance Champion named Rachel who drove from South Carolina to meet him! 🥰🏆🐶

Rachel, a former APR volunteer, wanted to help a senior dog and fell in love with Peele’s friendly disposition and was touched by his story. ❤️‍🩹 Peele had previously been living in a car with his original mom who refused to move into affordable housing because it meant giving him up. When APR was able to provide a safe shelter for Peele, this also provided Peele’s mom a chance to receive the help she needed. ❤️

Peele is now settled into his new home, which opens up the opportunity for another dog to have a second chance. 💖 Peele represents one of the many pets that you helped during Clear the Shelters. ❣️

Meet Sophie, our volunteer spotlight this month in our August newsletter! Volunteers are the heartbeat of APR. Each month, we celebrate one standout contributor whose time and dedication makes a real difference. 💗🐾

Sophie is a dedicated dog walker and handler, bringing our adoptable pups to community events to help them find homes. She also keeps our adoption board at the shelter up to date, highlighting the pets who have been adopted or are on their way home each month. In 2025, Sophie adopted APR’s longtime resident, Cici, giving her the happy ending she’d waited for. 🐕💕

“My favorite part of volunteering with APR is having the privilege of showing our animals love while they wait for their forever families. I am eternally grateful for the staff and volunteers who poured their love into my dog, Cici, while she waited over a year to be adopted. I still get emotional thinking about the people who came to send her off the day I brought her home. It’s incredibly rewarding to now be part of that same village, building connections with our animals and celebrating when they finally go home.” 🐶💖
