OFFERING ONLY PRIVATE TRANSPORT AT THIS TIME!!

There seems to be a lot of confusion with some people about what a private transport is. In an attempt to try to clear up this confusion I’ve outlined through AI what our private transport service entails, and who it benefits. To be clear it’s not going to help most breeders because most customers are obviously not gonna pay the $2.00-3.00 per mile per pet. Some will so ask. As of NOW I cannot continue doing coast-to-coast shared ride transport like I have been doing with the gas prices like they are. In California the average gas prices close to $6-7 gallon. Once gas returns to normal ranges I can adjust the price accordingly.

Private Pet Transport (dogs and cats) is a door-to-door, personalized travel service for your pet. Instead of flying cargo or sharing a crowded commercial transport, your dog rides individually or with their own family in a climate-controlled vehicle, accompanied the entire time by a professional pet handler.

How it Works
* Door-to-Door Service: I pick up your dog from your home and drive them directly to your new home or destination.

* No Other Pets: Unlike shared-ride pet shuttles, a private transport means your pets (or your specific family of pets) are the only animal in the vehicle. This minimizes stress and eliminates exposure to infectious diseases from other animals.

* Customized Comfort: Pets can typically ride crated and can enjoy their own beds, toys, and food from home.

* Care & Attention: I stop every few hours for potty breaks, exercise, and water. I'm also fully trained to administer medications or handle special needs and senior dogs.

* I still provide the best care and communication with you and your pets. I'm experienced with all different breeds, behaviors and medical conditions.

This great for those special dogs too such as:

* Pets that cannot fly: Snub-nosed (brachycephalic) breeds, or pets that exceed airline weight limits.

* Anxious or senior pets: Dogs that require a quieter, less-traumatizing environment with consistent companionship.

* Summer/Winter Travel: Owners who need to move their pets during airline heat or cold embargoes.

* Families Moving to another state and can’t fly their pets with them use a ground transport, private service.

Why Pet Transport Isn’t $400 (And What You’re Really Paying For)

I hear this so often can you transport my puppy from point A to point B for $500

On the surface, it feels like a reasonable ask. It’s just a drive, right?
But here’s the part most people never see—the behind-the-scenes math that keeps a professional, safe, fully insured pet transport business running.
Let’s walk through a real-world example.

The Trip: 1,700 Miles Round Trip 🚐🐾
For this scenario, we’re looking at a 1,700-mile round trip using real, current numbers:
Gas: $5 per gallon
Fuel usage: 14 gallons per 450 miles
Driver pay: $25/hour
Vehicle + insurance + business insurance: $780/month
Oil changes: $100 every 5,000 miles
No fluff. No inflated numbers. Just reality.
What It Actually Costs
Fuel ⛽
This trip requires gas, totaling:
$280
Maintenance 🔧
Wear and tear doesn’t wait until something breaks. It builds quietly every mile.
Oil cost for this trip:
$30
Business Overhead 📊
Even when the van isn’t moving, the bills still are.
Costs:$150
Driver Pay 👩‍✈️
Safe, attentive transport takes time. This trip clocks in around 26 hours of driving.
Driver cost(not pay):
$650
The Break-Even Point
Add it all together:
Fuel: $350
Maintenance: $30
Overhead: $265
Driver cost: $650
Total Cost: $1,395

That’s the number where I make zero profit.
Not a dollar for business growth.
Not a cushion for emergencies.
Not even a “hey, that was worth the time” moment.
Just… breaking even.
What a Sustainable Price Looks Like
To operate a legitimate, reliable business, I aim for about a 30% margin.
That brings the trip total to:
$1,750

That margin isn’t extra—it’s what allows me to:
Keep my vehicle safe and road-ready
Carry proper insurance (for both me and your pet)
Plan for breakdowns, delays, and the unexpected
Continue offering this service long-term

So… Why Not $355?

At that price, something has to give. And in this industry, what gives is often:
Proper insurance
Safe driving practices (think rushing, overloading, or skipping rest)
Vehicle maintenance
Individual care and attention for your pet

And those are not corners I’m willing to cut? Not for your dogs. Not for my business. Not for my name.

What You’re Really Paying For with Pat's PetExpress Transport
You’re paying for:
A USDA-licensed, solo operation, who has been doing this for 3 years. Worked with all types of breeds and behaviors for over 35 years.

One-on-one attention and low-stress travel.

Clean, safe, well-maintained transport.

Clear communication every step of the way.

Your pet isn’t cargo never squished in a cargo vehicle with multiple pets, And I treat them like they belong to someone who loves them deeply—because they do.

The Bottom Line
Break-even cost: $1,224
Sustainable, professional rate: ~$1,750
Requested rate: $350

That gap isn’t profit—it’s the difference between safe, ethical transport and cutting corners.
If you’ve ever wondered why professional pet transport costs what it does, this is it. No mystery. Just math, responsibility, and a commitment to doing things the right way—even when it would be easier not to.

This works with most ethical transporters out there.

This is my opinion anything more than 4 pets is too much to give the personal care needed, and to monitor for any issues that may arise quickly. Instead of running 10 or more animals in a vehicle without proper personnel. I tend to do mostly solo or 2 pets at a time.

Thought I'd give an update on the Rottweiler rescue that I did a transport a few weeks ago. I heard from the new owner and he has gained weight slowly and filling in nicely. She actually had to get a new collar for him she said she would send me new pictures soon. I'll share as soon as I get them. I love when my clients and pets are doing great.

When looking for a transport company for your pet, you want them to be an active USDA class T registered transporter. You can ask to see their certificate from USDA, some transporters will not share their number because of fear of scammers taking their registration impersonating them as transporters. I recommend talking to them on the phone or even facetiming with your potential transporter. I personally have had people ask for my ID, this is for them to make sure they are dealing with the real person.
I understand the fears that people have when hiring someone to one transport a pet a reasonable distance and pay a reasonable fee to someone they do not know. You need build trust with someone.
Here at Pat's PetExpress Transport we try to not only build that trust and make it a peaceful experience for both you and your pet. We have always been available if you decide not to choose us with any questions or concerns you might have about your upcoming transport. Our primary concern is to make sure your pet does get to its destination safe, and healthy.
Stay tune for more info about transporting pets.
