As summer heats up in Colorado, wildfires and rattlesnakes present major risks to our pets. When an emergency strikes, advanced medical intervention is critical.

At Fort Collins Veterinary Emergency Hospital, our Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) chamber is a vital tool for treating severe seasonal trauma:

-Smoke Inhalation & Burns: HBOT delivers 100% pure oxygen under pressure, rapidly reversing carbon monoxide poisoning and accelerating tissue healing.

-Rattlesnake Bites: Alongside antivenin, HBOT acts as a powerful supportive therapy to drastically reduce severe swelling and prevent tissue death around the bite.

Our emergency team is here 24/7 to provide advanced care when your pet needs it most. Stay alert on the trails and keep our number saved.

Summer in Northern Colorado means more adventures... and more exposure to leptospirosis.

Whether your dog loves hiking, splashing through puddles, swimming in lakes, or exploring areas frequented by wildlife, they may be at risk for leptospirosis, a serious bacterial disease that can affect both pets and people.

Signs of leptospirosis can include:
- Lethargy
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Increased thirst or urination
- Fever
- Yellowing of the eyes or gums

The good news? Vaccination and avoiding stagnant water are two of the best ways to help protect your dog.

If your pet develops concerning symptoms after spending time outdoors, don't wait. Early diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve outcomes. Fort Collins Veterinary Emergency Hospital is here to provide emergency care when your family veterinarian is unavailable, with a team ready to evaluate and treat your pet when they need it most.

Even on quieter days, our team is always finding ways to make patient care smoother!

Sienna is preparing individual bandage and gauze bundles so they're always within reach for IV placements, blood draws, and other procedures. It's one of the many behind the scenes tasks that helps our medical team stay organized and ready when every second counts.

The little things done today help us provide exceptional care when pets need us most!

Lyme disease is something we take seriously here in Northern Colorado.

With warmer weather and more time outdoors, tick exposure increases across trails, grasslands, and open spaces in our area.

Check out the infographic below and share it with your fellow pet lovers.

Remember to talk with your primary veterinarian about year round prevention and if you suspect your pet has been exposed to Lyme disease, we are here for you 24/7.

Meet Hobbes who came to us after not eating and losing weight. He’s a nervous boy, but was able to settle in thanks to our separate cat ward, a quiet and calm space designed to reduce stress.

That peaceful space helped him feel safe enough to rest and receive care. Sometimes healing starts with just feeling comfortable again.

Dayze misunderstood the purpose of long leather gardening gloves and decided they were a snack instead of safety equipment. Not the little wrist length ones, we’re talking the full, past-the-elbows gauntlet edition.

After chewing and swallowing multiple pieces of leather, Dayze needed some expert help from Dr. Marchewitz, who was able to successfully remove all the glove fragments. We’re happy to report that Dayze is recovering well and on the mend!

Today’s reminder: if your dog is suspiciously quiet and your gardening gear has vanished, it may be time for a house search.
