With heavy hearts, we remember Saber (January 9, 2017–October 11, 2026).

Saber was a Social, Therapy, and Reading Dog, and a valued member of PALS’ Comfort, Crisis & Peer Support Team. He and his handler, Christy S., made a wonderful team, sharing comfort, connection, and care wherever they went.

His watch has ended, but the love and memories he leaves behind will stay with all of us. Rest easy, Saber. Thank you, Christy, for sharing him with PALS. 💜

🔥NEVER FORGET🔥

The Tubbs Fire changed many people’s lives that infamous night as well as in the days, weeks, months, and years that followed. Many of our PALS volunteers lost their homes, lively hoods, and health. Devastation everywhere. Even so....our PALS volunteers wanted to make a difference in the lives of our Sonoma County community. They wanted to comfort those that needed help and encouragement.

PALS started to dispatch teams on day 3 of the fire. Volunteers visited the Sonoma County Fairgrounds to comfort the first responders fighting the fire on the frontlines, the Healdsburg/Petaluma airports to comfort the air support personal, Town Hall meetings to comfort the citizens of Sonoma County, schools to comfort the children, and evacuees at various shelters. It was very eerie to see the National Guard rolling through town in their trucks and holding weapons at the entrances of buildings and the two local fairgrounds. This crisis was heart-wrenching while at the same time heart-warming. Challenging yet rewarding. Inspiring and at times exhausting.

While comforting our community we found company. Many friendships were made, fellowship experienced, presence felt and closeness created. It was a healing process. While helping others heal we were in turn emotionally healing. However, our comfort dog teams, both human & canine, experienced secondary trauma from visiting first responders and evacuees during the disaster thereby having a need to debrief as a PALS family group.

During our PALS debriefing we realized just how resilient, compassionate and amazing our volunteers truly were. This wonderful debriefing brought all of our teams together to process the events that we all experienced, supported one another and shared a meal together. We are family for life....we are Sonoma County Strong!!!

A Catwalk for a Cause 🐾

The cheers said it all! The audience couldn’t help but smile as Bebe, Jack Frost, and Atticus made their way down the catwalk at Sutter’s Catwalk for a Cure.

This annual fundraiser supports cancer services for patients and families, including counseling, support groups, animal therapy, and other care. We’re grateful to Sutter for bringing our PALS teams into this special event, and proud to support the people and families facing cancer.

Thank you to Yvonne and Bebe, Cintsy and Jack Frost, and Christy and Atticus for sharing so much joy on the runway!
