Taking Ariel 5/4/2007 on her last trip today to the vet. She has been on borrowed time for about a year. Renal disease, heart failure, mammary cancer, one eye nonfunctional, and almost deaf. Essentially on hospice, she would not survive surgery to the eye, I stopped her heart med about a year ago and she perked up. Mia is her
buddy. She usually hangs out with her. Mia doesn’t care for Charlie or Bria, she is laid back. In the past year Ariel has been on a several trips to Ohio, and stayed at Leslie’s house while we dog sit her babes when she was out of town. She had a neurological episode two days ago, stiff neck and abnormal eye movement for about half a minute then gradually came around then threw up several times, rear legs took a while to start working again. I kept her right by me til she sat up and started looking around.
has never been a hold me dog. She has been my adventurer. She would climb my 5 foot fence and jump over if I took my eyes off her. Then she’d explore til she was ready to come home. No use trying to catch her. She started this as a puppy, first out of the puppy box, first out of the playpen, couldn’t keep her in a puppy gate. She was also the instigator for mischief. She stopped jumping out when she was about 12 years old like she finally realized she was getting too old for that high jump.
She has been weaker and mostly incontinent since then that episode two days ago. This morning she didn’t want to eat. Yesterday she just nibbled. Though she walked to drink water when I put them outside. But I had to pick her up to take her out.
I think my sign for helping them over the rainbow bridge is when the neuro signs start and they look at me with those help me eyes.
Two years ago, Bonnie had two seizures and look at me the same way. Bonnie had
cancer and I thought it had probably spread.
