So I get this phone call from our crazy friend Shari and the call goes something like this....... Shari "Hey Brenda do ya want to do some racing this summer up here at Morris and Miami?" Brenda "well hell yes!! how many horses do you need and when do we start!" Shari sent the schedule last night and at least we can hit a few races and get our international paperwork fees justified! Paying $125 for 30 days can hit the cheque book pretty hard, but we haven't done anything super fun in a while so between starting to drive CDE up at Oakbank and this we could be finally enjoying our horses again!! Good times are a starting to roll in here at Seldom Rest Acres! Watch out Manitoba I will be hitting the border pretty hard this summer looks like!

Hello Spring oh how I have missed you! Now we can really work hard this year as we are way ahead of the mud game, pens are dry pastures are filling in and soon yes soon we will be bringing horses in for intense work outs.

We are trying a few different things this year, Mikaila is really pushing to get more horses in for re-rides I think she is up to 6 so far. What she does is puts miles on your horse for you so when you are ready to go riding this year all the wiggles are already out and your horse is ready for you to hop on and take off.....smart girl wished she would do this for my driving horses!!

I have decided to really work some of the pony's for pair driving and single, most already drive but I want to push them harder so we can compete in the combined driving events. I also have 2 12 hand horses that I am working my tail feathers off on so I have a variety of horses to choose from.

We have a couple of horses that will be going up for sale, one is an Express mare and the other is a George gelding that was shown and did very well, this fellow is going to make one heck of a driving horse for someone, he is so flashy and smart with a wonderful hip, nice back and strong neck. We will get pictures of them up soon cause they are fuzzy wuzzy fellows right now!

Well I better quit for now have to get going outside, I will visit here again soon with some pictures! Hope everyone enjoys the sunshine:)

So it has been awhile since I have been able to sit down and figure out what has all happened since the last post. Hmmm let's see.........We finally moved the horses from the north pasture on Thursday, we have never had the horses still in pasture this long! Really helps on the hay, that and only 30 horses and 1 donkey wow we have it made this year:)
We have downsized so much in the last 3 years. We finally have the herd under control and with not breeding any mares until we have our herd downsized and the market finally coming around we believe that now is the time to push hard the driving training and possible breed a few mares this summer. Our broodmares are in great shape and ready to give us some wonderful foals.
Mikaila has been challenged with taking in some horses for what we call re-rides. This is for people and horses that haven't been riding in awhile and Mikaila gives them a re-fresher course. She seems to be pretty good at it although sometimes it can be hard if the owners do not remember or even know what kind of bit was used on the horse or the possible bad habits that they have picked up over the years. Once she has figured out the horse she then helps the owners with riding lessons to build up their confidence again. Very interesting to watch both the horse and the owners re-connect.
Now the time of year has come to start hooking up the horses and finding out who will make partners as this year I am really working on teams. Our new welsh gelding cross will continue his ground driving and working hard to get him in shape for our CDE classes next year, this is our new adventure and I am super excited to begin.
Well I guess that about catches everyone up on what has been going on around here. So for now do not let the snow catch you without your winter gear handy and keep on driving!!!!

Wow, that's all I have is WOW......when we moved back to ND I was unaware that we had a tsunami season in this area.....7 1/2 inches of rain in just one yes one week:( for the last 3 weeks our driveway, round pens and corrals have been ugly and I mean ugly, anyone that has been here knows we drive up fast but we cannot even work horses outside and no one has built us an indoor area yet that I have seen so training has S L O W E D way down. Mikaila has been working on pony's in the barn trimming feet and what not, but no riding or driving. Sigh we will be in over drive here when it does dry out, riding, driving and hay season is fast approaching....weight loss program no one needs to zumba in the summer around here!
well that's my 2 cents worth for the week, keep dry everyone and stay healthy!

Just thought I would put my two cents in and tell everyone what we have up too.
The sale in Rugby was really good for us and for all those people that purchased one of our horses we thank you and appreciate the kind words that were spoken about our friends.
We have been very busy working on setting up our yard for summer lessons and training. The pens are all decked out with bags, ribbons, balloons, tassels and balls if they were not quiet when they went in those pens they will be when they get out!
Our foals should be coming to see us soon, only 3 expected this year but we are just as excited as if we had 10 coming! pictures will be posted as the lady's show us what they have given us.
Mikaila has 6 horses coming in this year and they have started to arrive for their special one on one sessions with her.
Welcome back to our Hattie, she comes every summer to Seldom Rest 'summer camp'. Wonderful mare and awesome parents, thank you Shelly and Mike for sharing your lady with us:)
Ok so trimming feet is in full swing so make sure if you need your horses done please do not call the DAY you need them done as I still work 2 jobs. Thanks.
Ok guess that's my 2 cents everyone have a great day and remember to hug your kids and kiss your horse friends!!

The last week has been crazy! Managed to re-clip 6 horses and decided to take 2 more horses to the sale at the last minute; managed to clip them in under 1 hour. I'm beyond happy with how the sale turned out. Roman and Sox found a new home. As did Tut and Sly, Polly and Polly, Bob, and Diane. Thank you to everyone who was interested in our horses and who gave them amazing homes! Congratulations to you all.

Oh boy! Do I have my work cut out for me the next couple of days! Full body clipping 6 horses...AGAIN for the sale next weekend! Yup, I will be covered in tiny hairs. On the plus side with all the hair I've clipped off I could make a horse that won't cost me a dime to feed!!
