Protect your pets this weekend. We have severe risks from the dangerous heat and fireworks. Be there, support them and help them feel safe.
Your dog and cat hear the world at a volume you can't even imagine.
Dogs detect sound up to 45,000 Hz. Cats reach 85,000 Hz. Humans top out around 20,000 Hz. They live in a louder, higher-pitched world than we do. Imagine how fireworks feel to them. If it hurts your ears, multiply that times 2-4 and you know how they feel.
Fireworks register at 100–175 dB. Permanent hearing damage can begin at 95 dB. That's not anxiety alone — that's a physical assault on an ear far more sensitive than yours.
This July 4th, protect their ears like you'd protect your own:
🎆 Bring pets indoors before dark
🎆 Create a sound-buffered safe space (interior room, white noise, closed windows)
🎆 Talk to your vet about FAS (fear, anxiety, stress) and medication options before the holiday, not the night of
🎆 Make sure ID and microchip info is current
🎆 Don't take your pet outside after dark until you are certain the fireworks are done.
🎆 Don't take your pet to fireworks displays.
🎆 If you have to be outside with your pet and there is a risk of fireworks, use ear protection.
