Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures who are often the steady presence behind the scenes.

The ones who remember the details, hold the family together, show up for every milestone, and love in a thousand quiet ways.

I hope today brings you a little beauty, a little rest, and a reminder that the love you give matters more than you know.

They’re graduating.

And this window is smaller than it feels.

Caps and gowns come and go quickly. Schedules fill up. Summer starts. And before you know it, everyone has moved on to what’s next.

If you’ve been thinking about doing something more than a few quick phone photos, this is the time to do it.

I’m currently scheduling graduation portrait sessions over the next few weeks.

These sessions are a lot of fun and become an extension of the celebration for your family. They’re even more meaningful when parents and family step into the frame alongside their graduate.

Because this moment isn’t only about the milestone. It reflects years of love, support, and everything it took to get them here.

If you’d like more information or want to reserve a spot, send me a message and I’ll walk you through it.

There’s a moment with your young adult children that you don’t realize is “the last” until it’s already passed.

The last time they needed you to get ready.

The last time they walked out the door still rooted in your home, before stepping fully into their own life.

Graduation is one of those moments.
And it matters more than most people expect.

You watched it happen, and somehow it still feels like it went too fast.

The early mornings.
The late nights.
The years that felt long and then suddenly were not.

You were the steady presence behind the scenes.

As a mother, these moments hold a lot of emotion for me too. I have stood exactly where you are, watching my own children reach this point and realizing just how much went into getting them here.

And now here you are.

Graduation.

It is their milestone, but it is yours too.

Because this is one of the last moments where they are still fully yours before life begins to carry them forward in their own direction.

They are excited for what is next, and they should be. But this moment, this pause, this is just as meaningful for you.

These moments do not repeat themselves. They quietly become memories.

Before everything shifts, this is a chance to hold onto who they are right now.

Not just with quick phone pictures, but with portraits that feel worthy of the years it took to get here.

This celebration deserves to be remembered beautifully, and I am here to help.

Now scheduling graduation portrait sessions.

Here’s what to think about before booking your high school senior portraits for 2026.

There are a few things that can make a big difference in how the experience feels and how the final images turn out, and I’ll share a few of those below.

But first, this is Madison. She was such a joy to photograph, and I’ve had the chance to work with different members of her family over time, which made her senior session feel especially meaningful.

If you’re starting to plan senior portraits, timing is one of the biggest factors. Spring and early summer give you the most flexibility with scheduling and help you avoid the rush as deadlines get closer.

Another decision is whether you want studio portraits, outdoor portraits, or a combination of both. Each has a different feel, and many seniors choose to include both for variety.

And for most seniors, this is their first professional photo session, so having guidance with what to wear, how everything flows, and how to feel comfortable in front of the camera makes all the difference.

If senior portraits have been on your mind, this is a great time to start planning.

I recently photographed Autumn’s senior portrait session here in Harford County.

Autumn is a student at North Harford High School and has a real connection to the agricultural and animal programs there, so it felt natural to include that side of her world in part of her session. She also loves nature, which made these outdoor locations such a beautiful fit.

I always love when a senior session reflects something real about the student. That’s what makes the images feel personal instead of generic.

Now booking senior portraits and college graduation sessions.

I’m opening a few spring portrait dates right now.

If you’ve been thinking about updating photos for yourself or your family, this is a really beautiful time to start planning.

One of my favorite moments in a session is when someone walks in unsure…
and then starts to relax, laugh, and actually enjoy being photographed.
That shift, that’s everything.

This dress belonged to my mother, and I couldn’t quite let it go.

I saw her as a glamorous and gifted artist. She grew up in Burbank, California, in the 1940s, right in the heart of Hollywood. Growing up, she would go to the movies whenever she could, dutifully sketching every detail of the lovely gowns and outfits the starlets wore. Her mother, my grandmother, who was a seamstress, was known for turning her sketches into outfits she delighted in wearing.

Over time, she built a closet full of these exquisite, handmade pieces that she kept for years.
This is one of them.

What may not be obvious is that it doesn’t really fit me.

It doesn’t zip all the way, and it’s a bit snug at the waist, but that doesn’t matter to me. I knew I could be photographed in it in a way that honored it and honored her.

Photographing myself wearing my mother’s dress made me feel close to her again. She’s been gone over two decades, but that connection bridged the distance for me.

I think about how easy it would have been to say, “I’ll wait.”
Wait until I felt better about how I looked.
Wait until the timing felt right.
But I’m so glad I didn’t.
Because now I have this.

This is exactly why I created my 40 Over 40 Portrait Experience, for women who don’t want to keep waiting to feel ready, but want to have something real and meaningful to hold onto now.
