Remember Nero, now Charlie? ❤️

Look at him now!

His adopter sent us this wonderful video showing off some of his training, and we couldn't be prouder!

It's amazing what a little time, patience, and love can do. Rescue dogs have so much to offer, and there's something extra special about watching them blossom when someone gives them a chance.

Next time you're thinking about getting a puppy, please consider adopting instead. There are so many incredible dogs like Charlie just waiting for someone to see their potential.

And if you're not ready to adopt, consider fostering! Southpaw covers the expenses. You provide the love. ❤️

Gigi has learned to play fetch… kind of. 🎾 She’ll happily run after the ball, but bringing it back is still a work in progress!

Her foster family is helping her discover the good stuff: someone to play with, people she can trust, and a place where she feels safe enough to be herself. Watching this sweet girl come out of her shell makes us so happy.

Now she needs a furever family to share all those little moments with. Fetch lessons included. 🐾

Someone dumped him. You can call dibs on his comeback. 🐾

We never know when a dog will be dumped in our mountain communities. But when it happens, we assemble our team, make a plan, and get to work bringing that dog to safety.

A HUGE part of that plan? A foster. Getting a dog out of danger is only the beginning. We need someone ready to say, “You’re coming home with me.”

We’ve got the vet bills, food, supplies, and everything else. Your wallet can sit this one out.

You get to give the love, watch them come out of their shell, and tell us all about the dog you’re getting to know. The quirks, the favorite things, what makes them comfortable, and what makes their tail go wild.

That’s the most important part. You help us understand who they are so we can find the best home for THEM. Consider yourself their very devoted, slightly nosy matchmaker. 🐾

Help us get ready before the next call comes. Watch the videos from other fosters, learn what to expect, and fill out our foster questionnaire:

Step up. Foster with Southpaw. Someone’s comeback could start with you.

Animal abandonment is a growing problem in our mountain communities, and Veronica Hampton, founder of Southpaw Rescue, is working hard to address it.

Since 2019, Veronica and her network of foster families have taken in dogs left along our mountain roads, covering their care until each one finds a loving home.

Rather than simply react, Veronica launched the Mountain Community Animal Protection Program (MountainCAP), rallying hundreds of neighbors and partnering with county officials to prevent abandonment and hold offenders accountable.

Abandoning an animal is illegal, and it puts both animals and drivers at risk. Thank you, Veronica, for showing what one committed neighbor can do. Southpaw Rescue

Mountain CAP Update!

We have some exciting news! Our request for signs along Highway 38 has been APPROVED!

These signs will remind everyone traveling through our mountain communities that abandoning an animal is illegal and can result in a $1,000 fine.

Will signs alone stop animal abandonment? No. But every step toward prevention, awareness, and accountability matters. And this is a big step forward!

We're making progress, and we're not stopping here!

Another Sniffspot adventure is in the books! 🐾

This time, Riley brought Kaiya along for the fun! A giant fenced yard, endless sniffing and exploring, and even a pool for Kaiya!

For Riley, these adventures mean freedom without the usual restrictions. And for me, seeing them both so happy is everything. ❤️

Kaiya is one of our Mountain CAP dogs. Look at her now! Living her best life, complete with pool privileges!

And speaking of Mountain CAP... we have an exciting update coming soon! Stay tuned! 🐾

Some dogs find their way into your heart without ever meeting you. Tatum (.this.is.tatum) was one of those dogs for me.

A rescue dog who found a family of his own, Tatum went on to bring joy to so many people. I watched his posts over and over. His little sayings always made me smile, and he always made my day. I never met him, but I loved him, and I am devastated by this loss.

Charlie and Nicole, my heart is with you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful boy with us. I wish you could have had so much more time together.

Rest peacefully, Tatum. Thank you for every smile. You meant so much to me. 🐾
