These are the hardest jobs, why? Because they are emotional. Hard on the heart. This little senior was so calm. These cases are not what you’d expect. Most of these severe matting cases are actually so well behaved. Their faces so sad, their eyes empty and defeated. But they trust us and quickly learn it is safe, and it feels good even. 😔 we know times are hard. If you have a pet in these conditions please don’t let financial hardship be the reason why they get to this point. No one prepares you for the call that your beloved pet you’ve been grooming has passed. These are often silent goodbyes. It’s sudden and sometimes unexpected and they leave a void that cannot be refilled. Dee had been taking care of Maggie (Mae Mae) monthly and before his next visit we got the call. Dee was sad and concerned for Mae Mae’s mom, knowing what a kind hearted soul she is and just how tough this goodbye would be for her. She was so touched by Dee and salon staff’s care and surprised us all with a special treat. I’m not just talking about the custom cookies, but an in person visit and a hug to give us some closure and photo of Mae Mae. We all held back tears. Thank you, Dana. This was so sweet of you and an important reminder of why we do what we do.

It’s always sad to see our fuzzy guests get older, just the time prior this baby was able to stand majority of the groom. This time she was different. We shed a little tear seeing her decline. We went slow, we made her comfortable and gave her lots of cuddles. Seniors are fragile and deserve that extra bit of comfort. This groom isn’t perfect, it’s meant to minimize her time at the salon and last longer in between sessions.

Some pets come in shivering and some won’t even want to come in through the door.

The first initial thought of a pet parent is, “my dog hates it here.” Or “they must be doing something to my baby.” This is a normal bodily response to separation anxiety. It doesn’t always mean the worst case scenario it means they don’t want to be apart from you. 🩷 You are their world! 🩷

Once they do pass the door into the back their behavior changes completely. Most love the attention they receive. If you bring treats for them we will reward them for being calm. This is Osito, a tiny little guy that visits often and he always comes in shivering but once we take him out back he’s a sweet lover boy to all the ladies in the back. 🥰

Sometimes the littlest of guests are the hardest to do and require more than 1 persons help. Our little senior “Puppy” comes in for nail trims, she has a couple of health conditions that need her heart rate to stay calm. Sometimes we enter a quiet room just to make sure she is comfortable. Here we make sure to hold and caress her face so she is distracted and can’t attempt to bite the Dremel and get hurt. The baby hold is a good one for tiny babies like Puppy.

Sometimes pets are shivering at check in- separation anxiety is real! Once these little guys go through the door and you’re out of sight, they’re just having a tail waggin’ good time.
