And we are off again! Another batch of very lucky kitties are en route to their new forever homes in Colorado!
We are so happy and grateful for the opportunity to bring these kitties and the tens of thousands of cats we have transported over the years to their new homes. Our transport program has been an invaluable lifeline for so many cats and kittens who did not have anywhere else to go, pulling them from all kinds of desperate and dire situations and conditions.
Despite the success and impact of our transport program, support has dwindled to almost nothing over the past few years. The expenses of transport certainly stack up quickly! Gas for each trip is generally close to $1,000. The maintenance of the van, including oil changes, new tires, and other maintenance adds up. And the insurance on the van itself is very expensive! Plus, we maintain special licenses in the state of Colorado to legally be able to transport cats to the state. And there is the time of our staff to set up the van before hand and clean it after each trip. Not to mention all the grueling hours that go into verifying and reviewing the medical records and coordinating with our transport partners. Plus the actual driving itself is always done by two completely VOLUNTEER drivers!
And none of that includes the actual medical costs to get the cats ready for transport and follow the requirements of our partners. The medical for each cat is easily $250 or more, and even higher if there are any medical conditions requiring treatment.
Our transport program has so much UNTAPPED POTENTIAL to save so many more animals every year, if funding is available to support it. We are hoping our community can step up to the challenge so we can work together to make an impact!
