Tis the season to spay and neuter!!! A huge thank you to my AMAZING volunteers Mary Jo AndJohn Mayfield who traveled all the way to HSSM with Dori and Fern for their spay procedure that went awesome!

And good luck to our little man Snickers who is headed to Dr. Langston this morning for his neuter!

So many of the owner surrender calls I get are due to behaviors. Their once sweet baby has become territorial, lunging, nipping, spraying, more sassy, or just a mood/personality change. The first thing I ask is, "Are they spayed or neutered?" And I can guarantee you they are not!! This behavior is HORMONES!! Yes, you now have a teenager living in your home....in bunny form. Isn't she great ❤️ Personally, I love a little attitude, but spaying not ONLY removes those crazy hormones, it also removes her chances of breeding which controls the rabbit population, AND reduces her (and his!!) chance of cancer. So when you hear rescues push so much about spaying and neutering....that's why! :)

Guys, seriously. This bunny LAUGHED at me as I spent over 3 hours trying to catch him. Like he let me get within 2 feet...and then BINKIED away!! What a little fluffer. Where's James T Johnson when you need him!!!

UPDATE: We were finally able to catch the little stinker! Thanks to Jennifer Steiniger. AND HE turned out to be a SHE! She has been living at a beautiful assisted living facility in Fairhope. Hanging out with the ladies, munching on flowers, even getting treats and head scratches. But outdoors is never safe for a domestic rabbit, no matter what this sassy fluff may think!

Not sure about owning rabbits? Wondering if the commitment is for you? Or maybe trying to talk your spouse into it? THAT'S OK!!

We are here to help you every step of the way with our foster program, or foster to adopt program. It only requires a few simple steps.

1. Have a SAFE and SECURE INDOOR space for a rabbit.

2. Be willing to take an online, 45 minute, educational class on rabbits.
(Thank you Dolly's Dream House)

3. Be willing to set up (some supplies provided) a rabbit safe enclosure in your home and provide photos.

4. Give LOTS of LOVE to your new furry family friend and keep in touch. ❤️

You handle the day to day food and care. We handle the spay/neuter, medical expenses, support, and paperwork.

We are so thankful the rabbits and the rescue made it through the hurricane safe and sound. Lots of prep work, but we will take a near miss any day!!

Keeping those to the east of us in our thoughts. Several foster parents are in Escambia county. We are praying you are all safe!! If they have any needs, we will let you know.

FOSTER and ADOPTIVE HOMES NEEDED!!

We have had several inquiries about how fostering works, which is AWESOME 👏 👏 👏

So first off....
1. Have a SAFE and secure INDOOR space. That means no high prey drive dogs/animals.

2. Be willing to take Dolly's Dream House Rescue education class. It is online, FREE, only 45 minutes, and offered several times a week! Not to mention you will learn tons of valuable information 🙂

3. Provide photos of your indoor set up enclosure area. Area should include x-pen (gated area) of some sort, hide/or castle, litter box, hay, food and water bowls, toys, etc. If you are looking to foster-to-adopt, we ask you to provide your own set up. If you are strictly fostering, we help you set up the best we can.

4. Sign our Foster Agreement Contract ❤️ This states you provide the daily care, food and LOVE. We provide the spay/neuter and any emergency medical expenses. Or take them back if needed.

We are there every step of the way! And yes....you may choose which little p**p machine.....I mean cute adorable bunny 🐰 you may foster. And if things don't work out, THAT'S OK!!! And if you fall in love and want to adopt? Wonderful ❤️ Our adoption fee is ONLY the cost of the spay and procedure.

We are nearing the end with our old man, Trigger. Some of you may remember when Trigger came to us as an owner surrender several months ago. He was 12 years old, thin, and dirty. Unable to clean himself and unstable on his feet. His owners were moving and needed to rehome him. Needless to say, it broke my heart.

We became his nursing home. Brushing, butt baths, lots of love, and lots of yummy treats. We have given him every bit of love possible in his last days. Please help say goodbye to our sweetest of boys and then kiss your bunny dearly, everyone. I am so thankful to be a part of this guys journey ❤️

In lighter news, we are now dealing with a standoff situation with a few of the house rabbits who are protesting the morning clean up of their Coco puffs.....details at noon. 😆

I am ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS!!!

Apparently the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department had a table at the Baldwin County Fair last week raffling off LIVE RABBITS as prizes!! 20!! To be exact.

Let me explain. I was informed these were NOT rescue rabbits in need. These rabbits were purchased with the INTENT TO BE AWARDED AS PRIZES FOR CHILDREN at the fair...for FUN. Since when is animal neglect and cruelty fun??

It's been 2 days since the fair has ended and The Rabbit House Rescue is already receiving phone calls about these "prizes". What to do with them? How to take care of them? Can you take them? Rehome them?

DO BETTER BALDWIN COUNTY!!!

These are live animals. NOT TOYS!!
